The Sleep of No Dreaming Lyrics
At the age of sixteen
I grew out of hope
I regarded the cosmos
Through a circle of rope
So I threw out my plans
Ran on to the wheel
And emptied my head
Of all childish ideals
The sleep of no feeling
I married the first girl
Who wasn't a man
And smiled as the spiders
Ran all over my hands
Made a good living
By dying it's true
As the world in my TV
Leaked onto my shoes
I grew out of hope
I regarded the cosmos
Through a circle of rope
So I threw out my plans
Ran on to the wheel
And emptied my head
Of all childish ideals
The sleep of no feeling
I married the first girl
Who wasn't a man
And smiled as the spiders
Ran all over my hands
Made a good living
By dying it's true
As the world in my TV
Leaked onto my shoes

I agree with Dragan:
the sleep of no dreaming = 'death'
The sound of this on coma divine is amazing....
I guess looking through the circle of rope means he narrowed his vision and expectations. Although a circle of rope reminds me of a noose as well.
Of course it's a noose. This is an absolutely great line, cause "regarding the cosmos" always suggests admirirng the stars, adoring them, dreaming about something. Yet he does it while looking "through the circle of rope", hence - contemplating suicide at the same time.

"Regarded the cosmos through a circle of rope" = considered suicide.
amazingly creepy song...
possibly my favorite from signify... perfect.
Dude... it is called: The Sleep of No Dreaming, not: Sleep of No Dreaming. u_U
And about the lyrics, I don’t know, the whole Signify album is really creepy and weird lyrically speaking —musically speaking is superb.
I guess it's about Wilson’s youth, and how he finds out that the real world it's not what he thought.
I love everything about this song, from the spacey and brooding intro to the explosive chorus. My fav off of Signify.
I think when Steve was a teenager he realized making it in the music industry was going to be very hard, so i think the song is about that and Steve seeing the world and growing up. One of the best PT choruses vocally.
Pure and simple. It's about losing your dreams.
