Ambition Lyrics

You can take it or leave it as far as we're concerned
Because we're not concerned with you.
What you want is buried in the present tense
Blind alleyways allay the jewels.

I consider no questions
Store contempt for the lesson
They see my reflection
With no intention
To receive a visit soon
I may need a visit soon
We'll never flee the visit soon
Ambivalence calls every tune.

I am a dried-up seed can't be restored
I hope no-one notices the sleep on me.
I've been walking along down this shallow slope
Looking for nothing particularly.

You can see there are questions
Store contempt for the lesson
See no true reflection
With no intention
To receive a visit soon
Although you need a visit soon
I'll guarantee a wooden spoon
Ambivalence calls your every tune.

Am I guided or is this life a dream
Because nothing ever seems to happen to me.
And I won't be tempted by vile evils
Because vile evils are vile evils.

Third verse, first line; I've always heard it as: "Am I guided or is life a dream?" Not 100% sure though.

@voltabolta that's what I heard as well.

@voltabolta I hear that too ... and where's the chorus? I'll try to figure out what those words are... :-/

@sneeuwitje

my take was - though i never dared posting it truth be told - always along the lines of:

"You can see (it in) the question So contemporar... (something) Seen my true reflection With no intention

To be seen (is it soon) You need (is it soon) A guarantee (is it soon) And people will (something)".

My Interpretation

@voltabolta OK I just read this on Youtube and it makes sense - thanks to Charles Hodgson!

Charles Hodgson 4 years ago That chorus (confirmed with Vic) is as follows: "You consider no question, store contempt for the lesson, see no true reflection, with no intention to receive a visit soon, although you need a visit soon, I'll guarantee a wooden spoon, ambivalence calls your every tune."

@bettiebokchoy

interesting! so I was way off, as I expected!

the parts with spoon and tune I thought I always heard, though - just couldn't get it to make any contextual sense.

@voltabolta I've been listening to this song for nearly 40 years and I never knew what he was saying either. They are pretty abstract.

The final verse is a sharp observation of most decent people's lives.
