Connection Lyrics
Connection, I just can't make no
Connection, but all I want to do, is to get back to you.
Everything is going in the wrong direction
The doctor wants to give me more injections
Giving me shots for a thousand rare infections
And I don't know if he'll let me go.
Connection, I just can't make no
Connection, but all I want to do, is to get back to you.
My bags, they get a very close inspection
I wonder why it is that they suspect 'em
They're dying to add me to their collection
And I don't know if they'll let me go.
Connection, I just can't make no
Connection, but all I want to do, is to get back to you.
Connection, but all I want to do, is to get back to you.
The doctor wants to give me more injections
Giving me shots for a thousand rare infections
And I don't know if he'll let me go.
Connection, but all I want to do, is to get back to you.
I wonder why it is that they suspect 'em
They're dying to add me to their collection
And I don't know if they'll let me go.
Connection, but all I want to do, is to get back to you.

No 's' on the end of the title. It's not plural. This is one of my favorite early Stones songs. Another one written by Keith, evidenced by the hilarious lines about his bags getting a very close inspection, and that fact that he performed it live during more than one solo tour.
This song always jarred me (in a good way), and finally I realized it was because the song starts in the middle of the chorus.
He cannot make a connection to get his dope.
He does not want to be sick. He wants to get to his dealer who has the dope that gets him high.
He can’t find good dope where he is; he wants to get back to his usual and ordinary supplier or who ever his dealer sends around to make the delivery. Plainly you can understand that he wants his dope.
He got some weak dope.
Some Junkies are particularly adept at shooting up fellow dopers. These helpers are often called Doc. Some do not have to buy dope to feed their habits at all; they get a taste from the people who they facilitate shooting up. Keith clearly says that his Doctor wants to give him more injections. That means his shooter is with him in the airport or wherever, and is ready to shoot him up again, but they do not have good dope to inject.
No matter what the problem physical, or physiological, some form of drug is the desired cure. The only hope is dope.
If he can’t find what he needs soon, the Doc is going to leave him, and he will have to shoot up himself.
The dope that they just shot is bunk.
They need more dope to get him well.
Junkies have thousands of reasons why they need a fix, but the solution to all ills, is only one.
People who hang with Junkies are suspected of doing drugs to?
Just because his friends do drugs what makes you think he does to?
@Sumflow - this Sumflow comment is the explanation by a drug addict, so sad to read it... the real meaning of the song is: Keith Richards wrote most of this song, which is about the long hours the Stones spent in airports and the hard life of performing on the road, with all the travel-weary metaphors that go with it. The repeated word "connection" is a reference to connecting flights, "Everything is going in the wrong direction" is again suggesting not being able to get the right flights, and "The doctor wants to give me more injections, giving me shots...

Oh, and "my bags, they get a very close inspection." Well, better not have any contraband in there! And of course that Keith was an obvious supsect for the customs officers.
