This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide Lyrics
Hey Judy, get Trudy
Ya said to call you up if I was feelin' moody
Hey little Donna, ah still wanna
Ya said to ring you up when I was in Toronna
I have lots of friends that I can ding at anytime
Can mobilize some laughs with just one call
Like a bunch of lunatics we'll act till way past dawn
Sure we'll be rockin' till our strength is gone
Yeah, this beat goes on
And on, and on, and on
Hey ladies , ooh you crazies
Well, me and Zero request you in the Mercedes
And then we'll ride, so zoomy inside
The sky's the limit this time, I'm switchin' to glide
I don't give a hoot about what people have to say
I'm laughin' as I'm analyzed
Lunatics Anonymous, that's where I belong
Sure cause I am one, till my strength is gone
Yeah, this beat goes on
And on, and on, and on
I have lots of friends that I can ding at anytime
Can mobilize some laughs with just one call
Like a bunch of lunatics we'll act till way past dawn
Sure we'll be rockin' till our strength is gone
Yeah, this beat goes on
This beat goes on, this beat goes on
This beat goes on, this beat goes on
This beat goes on, this beat goes on
(Repeat)
THIS BEAT GOES.......
Nothin' matters but the weekend
From a Tuesday point of veiw
Like a kettle in the kitchen
I feel the steam begin to brew
Switchin' to glide, switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide, switchin' to glide
Energy can be directed
I'm turnin' it up, I'm turnin' it down
Even love can be affected
Harmony's the sweetest sound
Switchin' to glide, switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide, switchin' to glide
Balancin' on my head
Inside of me, taking the glide path instead
Everybody gets the note now
Hear it ringing in their ears
Lots of ways that you can go, Go!
Look around, no disappears
Switchin' to glide, switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide, switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide, yeah...switchin' to glide
Yeah, switchin' to glide, ah...hay...oooh...aaaaa
I'm switchin' to glide, I finally found some way outta this hole ya know
OUTTA THIS HOLE...!

The Kings were a quirky late 70's Canadian group, who were essentially One Hit Wonders. They really only had one successful album, with one hit song on it. That double A single was the combined songs of This Beat Goes On and Switching to Glide. The song actually has no real meaning or depth to it. However, it is extremely catchy, funny, and has a great rhythm. It is a versatile tune, as it is pleasurable to both listen to and sing along with while driving in a car, and/or partying and dancing. It is a campy, kitschy, amusing song with humorous lyrics. It's a "feel good" tune. Picking up girls, calling friends, riding around in cars, partying, cavorting, acting like a "lunatic" all night ('till our strength is gone"), shirking all responsibility, slacking, and not caring about what others think. Almost like a teenage anthem. The most serious and telling line in it is the ending: "I'm bound to find some way out of this hole, you know Out of this hole!" This is one of my all time favourite songs, and guilty pleasures. Almost 40 years later, I still tap my toes and sing along whenever it comes on the radio. Really, nothing matters but the weekend, from a Tuesday point of view.
