Does the artists personal meaning when they wrote the song really matter? What makes art great is that it can be interpreted by 1000 people in 1000 different ways- that it can speak to them and give them the words they don't have to articulate the way they are feeling. For me, an ex-heroin addict who has been off methadone for 2 months this song is quite specific. My bones are constantly aching- every part of my body wants to run away from the situation I put it in. He uses imagery of burning and of heat to describe something similar to the feeling of drowning. To sleep, oh to sleep. To go home, to feel the little deaths of pleasure, to feel the big pleasure of nothingness.
This is one of my favorite Sparklehorse songs.
Again, Linkous says it the way that only he can, and those who know the feeling can't describe it any more accurately. Mark really nailed it on this one.
