Sure, Star Trek Enterprise made the song far more popular than any single artist could have, and the song on its own isn't particularly outstanding. But, I do think it's perfect for this science fiction series. Captain Archer (fictional first captain of the starship Enterprise) harbored a lot of frustration over how the Vulcans purposely held back technological information that could have advanced human space exploration decades sooner than it did. Archer regrets that his father did not live long enough to realize his own dream of space exploration. In a way, he lives his own life in an effort to make up for what his father and his father's generation were denied. For better or for worse, the lyrics take you there. To "boldly go," is the crux of the entire series. This song serenades the dreams and the longings of humanity to explore and seek new lands.
