The companies trying to sell Gen-X, weren't Gen-X. They weren't part of an ethos. They were an image forever self perpetuating.. They showed an image of what you were supposed to be, then sold it back to you. The Merchants of Cool were much like Fagem om Oliver Twist.

Around the time this was released, companies started gearing their marking towards generation X. Being a member of this generation, I can say we were raised on a diet of satire, disillusionment and cynicism. It's all about not believing what they tell you and don't be a blind sheep in this. The video only serves to reinforce this. For example, when the line "Belong to us and we'll make you PC" is sung, they show a hand holding a package of cigarettes with the letters PC on it. Cigarettes, of course, are very politically incorrect. What's sad is since then, this kind of hype has only gotten worse.
