Why Do You Bother Lyrics

Why hold on
Your hands are getting sore
You must be scared of something
From the time before, well
We're here again
How long, who knows
It's not your right to tell me
Where this trip will go
Pull away
You're dying today
You could enjoy it
If you could take your feelings with you
But put your mind on me
And suck my energy
And see the speed gets higher
I see you hold on tighter

But just fatigue
Is all your face will show
It's weary from the stress
Getting delirious
I didn't want this race
We can't keep up this pace
We don't want to get well
We want to go to hell
We want an urban dream
The fucking urban scream
This time was mine to borrow
I'll pay for it tomorrow
You'll pay for it today
And as we drive away
I'll make my pleasure greater
Push the accelerator

(And down we go)

I can't believe i'm the first to comment on this. Such a dark and eerie song. I think it's about losing faith in humanity

It is a shame that the Chuck Mosley is pretty much forgotten even amongst FNM fans, I think some of their best songs came from his era. I think this song is just about the youth lifestyle of fucking yourself up on drugs and alcohol constantly, and being carefree about it. The last lyrics of the song which reflect carefree driving to me are a metaphor for the way some people live their lives in almost a constant state of drunk driving where they are constantly taking risks without thinking of the conseequences. I think it's trying to be positive overall though,...

Hello, as any great song it has more than one meaning and everyone will perceive it differently. I take the song in some parts a bit literal but also with some underlying tones. It feels like the song's character(s) aware that he isn't doing well in life and he is angry, desperate/sad and reckless and possibly has an ego and pride (it's not your right to tell me how this trip will end) he might even know it himself. He tries to fight in life but he is ineffective and already fatigued. He realizes that whatever he is postponing can't be postponed any further what he left for tomorrow is coming today and it makes him sink further into despair. The song is about a mental state not a particular event in my opinion. He is clinging onto the past and doesn't want to grow up he wishes the time could stop so he can find some peace in his own mind. In the end it seems like he accepted and is even ''happy'' that he will suffer and not have the joy of experiencing his dreams and fantasies. I'm not sure what happens in the end though, I have a vibe that he commits suicide or does something that gets him killed. I love the album version and also the live version is pretty raw and fits the theme of this song perfectly (Malta Festiwal Poznań 04/07/2012)

It's a good self reflecting song anyway, it asks you: ''why do you bother?'' Makes me wonder at least :)
