Rock 'n Roll Widow Lyrics

It happened in an open field
Down in a southern state
And no one knows the reason why
Some would say it's hate
They shot the guy who sold the dogs
It came as some surprise
And to a lady standing there
Brought sadness to her eyes

She's a rock and roll widow living in this town
Another rock and roll widow since they gunned him down

The heat of day still hung around
As night began to fall
The sheriff came up from the town
In answer to the call
The band played on in darkness
Not knowing what to do
As people ran from side to side
Just looking for a clue

Cover art for Rock 'n Roll Widow lyrics by Wishbone Ash

About a widow whose husband was a hippy type back in the 70s who ends up shot by a crooked redneck Sheriff in a Southern town

@DaphneM /Not this easy. The sheriff was not the shooter, but arrived after the act, being called.

The shooter was a black guy, shooting a Cuban student, who worked on his doctorate and selling hotdogs at the entrance of a Wishbone Ash concert. The sheriff came later onto the scene.

This is a song about a hate crime in a southern state, probably a black guy, who sold hotdogs at a rock concert got shot by a white guy, leaving his widow in tears. I think I remember reading this in the news in the early 1970s

@hans peter /Sorry rednecks, it was a black guy shooting a Cuban student, working at his doctorate.
