Wildflower Lyrics
She's faced the hardest times you could imagine
And many times her eyes fought back the tears
And when her youthful world was about to fall in
Each time her slender shoulders bore the weight of all her fears
And a sorrow no one hears
Still rings in midnight silence, in her ears
Let her cry, for she's a lady
Let her dream, she's a child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower growing wild
And if by chance that I should hold her
Let me hold her for a time
And if allowed just one possession
I would pick her from the garden to be mine
Be careful how you touch her, she'll awaken
As sleep's the only freedom that she knows
And when you walk into her eyes, you won't believe
The way she's always paying for a debt she never owes
And a silent wind still blows
That only she can hear, so she goes
Let her cry, for she's a lady
Let her dream, she's a child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower, growing wild
Let her cry, oh, she's a lady
Let her dream, 'cause she's a child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower growing wild
She's a flower growing wild, she's a flower growing wild
And many times her eyes fought back the tears
And when her youthful world was about to fall in
Each time her slender shoulders bore the weight of all her fears
Still rings in midnight silence, in her ears
Let her dream, she's a child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower growing wild
Let me hold her for a time
And if allowed just one possession
I would pick her from the garden to be mine
As sleep's the only freedom that she knows
And when you walk into her eyes, you won't believe
The way she's always paying for a debt she never owes
That only she can hear, so she goes
Let her dream, she's a child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower, growing wild
Let her dream, 'cause she's a child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower growing wild
She's a flower growing wild, she's a flower growing wild

This song is about a woman who is chosen by her family of origin to be a scapegoat. She's the blame for everything that goes wrong ( she's always paying for a debt she never owes). There is a young man who's there to comfort her, who seems to be the only one who understands her. He's a platonic friend who secretly wishes to be her prince that will help her and free her from her terrible family past. His love is primarily shown by way of understanding.
This song is about a young woman who was born into a life of hardship and struggle that resulted into trauma. This woman has the weight of the world, her world on her back but still displays a unique grace and beauty to the man singing the song about her. He adores her, admires her, pities her and wants to save her. He's observing from a point of view from a man who wants this woman romantically but she may be too occupied with surviving to notice. He wants to be her escape. The part that says (Becareful how you you touch her, she will awaken, sleeps the only freedom she knows) that implies that he can't just approach her like he would any other woman, he has to proceed with caution so he won't trigger her or push her away before he gets the chance to love her, as he intends. This is a poem, a love letter, if you will to a young lady who is paying for a debt she never owed. Her beauty transcends the physical, her beauty in her soul is what this song is really about. After everything she's been through , she's still a free and gentle flower. By far one of the most beautiful songs of all time.
