The Fightin' Side of Me Lyrics
About the way they have to live here in this country
Harpin' on the wars we fight
And gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be
And I don't mind 'em switchin' sides
And standin' up for things they believe in
But when they're runnin' down our country, man
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me
Runnin' down a way of life
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep
If you don't love it, leave it
Let this song that I'm singin' be a warnin'
When you're runnin' down our country, hoss
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me
Who claims that he just don't believe in fightin'
And I wonder just how long
The rest of us can count on bein' free
They love our milk and honey
But they preach about some other way of livin'
But when they're runnin' down our country, man
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me
Runnin' down the way of life
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep
If you don't love it, leave it
Let this song that I'm singin' be a warnin'
When you're runnin' down our country, man
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me
Runnin' down the way of life
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep
If you don't love it, leave it
Let this song that I'm singin' be a warnin'
When you're runnin' down our country, hoss
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me
Don't we all know a woman who looks like Merle Haggard? I mean seriously.............
P.S. Women who look like Merle Haggard are jealous biotches and they trounce all over their "men". They turn their "men" into pussies. Aww. But it is all pretty funny in the end when they look like the pathetic wizened "hags" that they are. Their man loved someone else and they couldn't deal with it in a normal and healthy way. So sad when you are waaaaay too old for that kinda behaviour. But, I'm British. So call me cold!

Much like Haggard's "Okie from Muskogee" this song is satire. It is poking fun at the jingoistic, "patrotic" person who thinks opposition to war amounts to treason.
@bugo Wrong. Some journalist managed to get Haggard to call them "satire" at one point but that was not what he had in mind, as is immediately obvious from anything else he has said about them. This song is 100% not poking fun at patriotic people.
