Baby Blue Eyes Lyrics

Remember baby blue eyes
Though she may not remember me
We used to play together
When we were only three

When my age was sixteen
I left home with a troubled mind
Blue eyes set out to grab me
Told her I wasn't her kind

Chugalugalug, gotta get that train
Chugalugalug, I won't miss out again
Chugalugalug, gotta get that train back home
Back home

Strange a mind of sixteen
Thinks it knows all but doesn't at all
Teenager with illusions
Suddenly sick of it all

So I'm leaving in the morning
Goin' back to the place I love
Tall willow trees are weeping
Lazy blue skies up above.

Chugalugalug, gotta get that train
Chugalugalug, I won't miss out again
Chugalugalug, gotta get that train back home
Back home

I love this song - I think about the story behind it every time I hear it and it sticks in my head. It seems to be about a boy and girl who grow up together, probably in a country town. The girl grows to love the guy but he doesn't reciprocate and leaves [for the city?] to sort himself out. After a while, he realises what he is missing and catches a train to take him back to his country home - and maybe to the girl he left behind.
