I believe this is about a relationship that had its problems. That problem seems to be communication which was the downfall of the relationship. It looks as if both were to blame. The first verse talks about the colors fading, which is the beginning of every relationship, the honeymoon stage, and then that fades into the real relationship where it is tested. I think that someone gave up or maybe they both did. They loved each other but for some reason their relationship didn't work and now they have to deal with being alone, which is the hardest part of loving. Losing someone you love is always hard especially if they've become part of your life or even your whole life. Breaking up seemed like best decision for them. However, they are struggling whether or not it was the right decision because without the other they feel that person missing from their life. They loved and lost and now have to deal with being alone. So tragically beautiful.
