Where Would We Be Without Christmas? Lyrics

Dressed in black sat coughing ashes
Thinking back on younger years
To you he was the savior sure
But he was my kid brother still
It was a childhood the spotlight
They watched our every move
The newspapers ate us up
But we had something to prove
Mother Mary
Lady of sorrow
And the miracle kid
No Jesus
He wasn’t no son of a bitch
Well they called my mother crazy
What a scandal she would laugh
She had a baby over night but nobody knew the dad
But Madonna learned the hard way
To let her boy go free
She put him on a curfew
And he disappeared for weeks
And he was such a strange child
Eccentric as could be
You couldn’t take him anywhere without washing someone’s feet
And the attention made me jealous
But what was I to do
But they caught the little runt
He claimed to be the king of Jews
Mother Mary
Lady of sorrow and the miracle kid
Jesus
I’ve been singing with the ghost
I’ve been dancing with a manikin
Bells were ringing
I was lost
Overshadowed
Second best again
But mother Mary
If she could have copyrighted this Christmas business
Mother Mary
My brother in the manger would have been rich
Jesus
Now he’s got a fan club full of degenerates
Jesus
He wasn’t no son of a bitch
No he wasn’t no son of a bitch
Where would we be without Christmas?

After listening to this song quite a bit, "They caught the little runt/he claimed to be the king of the jews"

sounds more like "that cocky little runt/he claimed to be the king of the jews"

In context of the song, it seems to make more sense. Just my .02

Either way, great song.
