Grew Up at Midnight Lyrics
Outside of the window
I was sticking with you
We were only kids then
We'd get soaked right through
We used to tell them
I was staying at yours
Sheltered in our own worlds
We'd watch the rain right through
We grew up at midnight
We were only kids then
We grew up at midnight
We were only kids then
Loving woman, loving man
Here for you doing the best we can
Hard to figure, hard to bare
Hard to think knowing how much you care
It's the strangest thing through thick and thin
All this time kept the promise you made
If you're telling I'll be told
I'll come running and be there
As soon as I can
Outside of the window
I was sticking with you
We were only kids then
We'd get soaked right through
We used to tell them
I was staying at yours
Sheltered in our own worlds
We'd watch the rain right through
We grew up at midnight
We were only kids then
We grew up at midnight
We were only kids then
But that night we knew
I was sticking with you
We were only kids then
We'd get soaked right through
We used to tell them
I was staying at yours
Sheltered in our own worlds
We'd watch the rain right through
We were only kids then
We grew up at midnight
We were only kids then
Here for you doing the best we can
Hard to figure, hard to bare
Hard to think knowing how much you care
It's the strangest thing through thick and thin
All this time kept the promise you made
I'll come running and be there
As soon as I can
I was sticking with you
We were only kids then
We'd get soaked right through
We used to tell them
I was staying at yours
Sheltered in our own worlds
We'd watch the rain right through
We were only kids then
We grew up at midnight
We were only kids then
But that night we knew

seems to me this song is about "first love". maybe the kind of love that evolved from a childhood friendship into teens' romance... anyway, although i never really ever had that kind of experience, this song makes me feel "nostalgic" in a very beautiful way
I dont know if it is a first love thing, but for sure it is their "first night". Just look at the last line: "But that night we knew" (they were kids, but they knew that they were doing some nice love).
I understand "grew up at midnight", like after they did the thing they were now grown-ups.
Indeed a very beautiful song. Also feel nostagilc about it.
This song means when they were kids they were not doing what average kids do as kids. They were kids who were trying to build and invent. Solving theories as an adult does. That's why the lyrics states we grew up at midnight. And they did because it paid off. Cute and smart song ever.
