The Rift Lyrics

There's a rift out in space,
And it could be the door,
But you know I'm not sure.

If you go through the rift
To the Palace of Ice
Might it be nice.
Is it paradise?

I'm the commander of time,
In my vessel of God,
I go through the rift
To the Palace of Ice.

We may never come back
From the Palace of Ice
Because the rift is a door.

Ooh yeah...

i know it's "Palace of Ice" but i can't help but wonder if it's also supposed to be "Palace of Vice"

Second that. I've always sung Vice. Nobody's ever noticed.

So... Here it goes. As with many Ween songs we assume the meaning to be induced by the ingestion of a certain drug and the effects it has on you. I'm gonna go in a different direction with this one. I believe this song to be about being born into this cruel "cold" world, or Palace of Ice. The lyrics, "I'm the commander of time in my vessel of god" make me think he's a baby inside the womb whom waiting to be born but only he can tell his mother when he is ready. Furthermore, the lyrics "we may never come back from the Palace of Ice because the rift is a door" means just that. Once we are birthed into this Palace of Ice, there is no going back. Obviously, as with any song ever made we may never know the true meaning but this is what makes sense to me.
