This is a beautifully crafted, amazing, fantastic, brilliant song. It is about a girl who was dating a guy (Daniel, obviously) and she had a possible job in LA that, if she took, she would no longer get to be with Daniel. They had a fight, and, of course, Dia won. He let her win. He didn't talk her out of leaving.
They promised they would meet in Autumn, but they waited until spring and it was torture for them both, and that ended their relationship.
He was very sad, but he tried to be strong for Dia. He held his hands out for one last hug and he was silently crying.
They were at a cafe somewhere when Dia wrote 'I love you' on a napkin. He stole the napkin as a keepsake.
Dia tries to justify it in her mind when she says
'Have you settled down with someone since I gave you time to grow?'
She knows she should not have left but she's lying to herself by saying that she was just letting him grow.
She doesn't want to be forgotten. She wants him to think of her. She wants to know if he moved on or some part of him still feels the way that she does, hopelessly in love.
