Closer I Get Lyrics

People say it just doesn't matter but
The closer I get I'm giving in
I can't escape
Damn what a shame
Listen to me just for a minute
I can be quick, no gimmick
I got a plan we should live it

The closer I get, I can't relate
This aint our place, let us go far far away
Find a new home, rules of our own
You and me both are the same
Try to be strong baby come on now, come on
Lie after lie, so many times
When I'm trying to find a peace of mind

I've got love for you when the time gets rough
When all the stress adds up
When you say I've had enough

What ever happened to the good times?
We should create for ourselves, not rely on
They'll never get a hold of me
Simple you see, the simplicity
The closer I get I can't relate
I can't escape, oh the pain
How they lie all the time
When I'm trying to find a peace of mind

Yes I found my own way out
I'm going in all the way
When the people all find out
They're going in all the way down

Such a laid back chill song that sounds so good. Having John Popper from Blues Traveler just makes it even better. Not sure what the song is about but perhaps it is about him becoming more and more of a star/celeb.....expectations and stress surmount and he just wants to live a simple life with his loved one.

This is probably a stretch since Reb seems to pretty much always have peace of mind... but to me personally "People say it just doesn't matter" is to me just becoming part of the whole system of Babylon and giving in to little things like consuming another disposable item here, accepting a gift of something you dont need here. People say these things dont matter but Reb is trying to resist Babylon. He says "I can't escape" but then finds hope and says, "I've got a plan, we should live it". Like he can find a lifestyle he's still okay with. He fantasizes, "far far away", "rules of our own", not the rules of the system.

The system has brought them apart in different ways because they both have to live "lie after lie" when "trying to find a peace of mind". He's saying "You and me both are the same / Try to be strong baby come on now, come on"

... The lyrics in the rest of the song fit, ow stress builds up and makes you wanna say youve had enough, but then creating one's own happiness in simplicity and authenticity.

Peace !

@ashtreez You sir you get it! ;)
