Arms Lyrics

Live your life in parallax
Live your life through the lens
Live your life in the rape OR (Wraith) room
Or a Mercedes Benz
All signs say stay away OR (All senses sense away)
Throw a key and call her someday.

Come feel the arms around you; come feel the arms around
Come feel the arms around you
Over the wisdom; feel this real OR (All there is to fear is fear)
Come feel

Throw away the underclasses
Throw your love on the lawn
Everybody got locked and loaded
With the hammer drawn
Froze senses: steal away OR (All senses sense away)
Throw a key and call her someday

Repeat chorus

Cover art for Arms lyrics by Sisters of Mercy, The

I've wondered about this song for a long time, Finally, it hit me when I noticed the changed lyrics. It's about drugs or addiction. The word "key" through me...but I think it's a play on words, the "key" meaning kilogram and not an actual key. Quite genius, and something Mr. Eldritch does often. Also, drugs are a common theme in many of S.O.M. songs. And another interesting note: after doing nothing with the website for years, in 2009 he listed several songs under "Live News" most of them relating to drugs, including new lyrics for a song called "Far Parade." It leads me to think that maybe he (or someone close to him) was struggling with addiction. I do not know if the phrase "All senses sense away/Suzanne" is correct. I have listened to it many times and can't tell. I think he does say both at different times, but perhaps that's just wishful thinking. "Suzanne" fits with my theory better...so it is highly possible that I am hearing what I want to hear.
