Book of James Lyrics
On a park bench sat a crimson beating heart
and behind him the girls played double dutch in the park
The sun began to burn his snow white skin
I guess your either headin' somewhere or endin up somewhere..
Storm clouds began to form in his head
and crisscrossed his mind like a restless angry ocean
And the howling of hardship and heartache
kneeled and grinned in his face
He stood there in his shoes unable to move
And i drove all night here to tell you that i love you
And here lies my green eyes
rolled back in my head, but they're alive
and all the words can all get spoken
But I know we´ve tried
and you're forgiven
You´re forgiven
He made his way down the boulevard
near all the 99 cent stores and garbage in the yards
And he began to sing
about the crickets and the backroads where we used to play
I guess your either headin' somewhere or endin up somewhere..
cause I tried the bible, tried the bottle, tried the needle, tried to
love people
And in the end there aint nothing to say
And in the end there aint nothing you can say anyway
And i stand here in my shoes, unable to move
hat in my hands, at the bottom of the ocean.
And here lies my green eyes
rolled back in my head but they're alive
and all the words can all get spoken
I know we tried
and you're forgiven
you're forgiven

this song is about his younger brother, jim, who was schizophrenic. jim ended up committing suicide after being in solitary confinement for 4 years due to his condition. This song is absolutely heart wrenching. Especially since they were raised in foster care due to their mother's own mental illness so he felt the need to protect and take care of his kid brother. it's mourning, forgiving, accepting jim's death but at the same time he hasn't found hope anywhere he's looked. so the underlying despair is heavy.
what a powerful song. jmplow is right on with his comments. there's an amazing interview Billy does with NPR where he talks about his mum and brother, how their suicides affected his life and how his music was his outlet etc.... what a guy. the power of music.......
I thought it was "Kid, I drove all night here, to tell you I love you" Lx
It is. There are a few other small differences, but these are the lyrics posted on their website, which oddly aren't the actual lyrics in the song.

Very atmospheric song. The first time I heard it when I was a student, I immediately started searching for what all the words mean. It's very important that people listen to music, thanks to it I can work a lot and recently added a new article to my blog https://bestessayservicesradar.com/how-to-write-an-argumentative-essay/. Just listening to the Book of James is very inspiring.
