I think this song is about someone who feels as if he is wasting his life and is always failing. He tries to change but he cant and his pride is driving a wedge between his relationships that he feels he doesn't deserve. But his girlfriend reminds him that though he is broken, he is still around.

I’m sorry, but this song is clearly about his relationship with God, it’s not about a relationship with his girlfriend.
