Common Burn Lyrics
Simple things like your overcoat and your beauty
That's still burning me, let me hang around
Even if it's just some way to have some common burn
A common burn
So I spend the night in someone's house that you clouted
Oh simple me that you fled, but we have that in common
A common burn
A common burn
Oh well, heavens, I have said so many times before
You could sit around and have everything that you scored
Just don't come home and say you've been asleep
When you know you're burning someone
That common burn
That common burn

I think it is:
“That’s still ARE burning me” instead of “That’s still burning me”
“Aware, I’m just it” instead of “Aware of atoms, I said”
and after the last two: “That common burn, that common burn” it says “You know we have.”
My interpretation is the person she is singing about was burned/hurt by a previous lover, and now the way he treats her makes her realize that they both share that in common now - he was burned by another lover and now he passes that hurt onto her and now she also feels that burn, because he is the one that's hurting her, just like his previous lover hurt him.
The end line sums it all up "Just don't come home and say You've been asleep When you know you're burning Someone. That common burn"
She's saying: Don't pretend to 'be asleep' when he should know better from his past experience of feeling burned by someone and now he's burning her and now they also share that feeling of being burned.
"overcoat and your beauty"
"oh simple me that you fled"
"that common burn, that common burn"
"and say you've been asleep"
Simple things like your over coat and your beauty That's still burning me Let me hang around Even if it's just some way to have Some common burn A common burn
So I spend the night in someone's house that you clouded Oh simple me that you fled But we have that in common
That common burn That common burn
Aware of atoms, I said So many times before You could sit around and have Everything that you scored Just don't come home and say You've been asleep When you know you're burning Someone
That common burn That common burn
"So I spend the night in someone's house that you cluttered"
"Oh where, heavens, I said so many times before"
"So I spend the night in someone's house that you clouted", not 'clouded', not 'cluttered'
Not "atoms," believe it's:
"Ooh well— haven't I said (or heavens, I said)"
And while "times before" would make more sense, I distinctly hear
"So many towns before"
Common burn has a bit of a double meaning. It could mean a shared pain but could also mean "burn" as In a lovers burn. Obviously there's implied remorse or denied feelings for eachother in this particular relationship.
