this is about thinking how you'd feel if the persons you love go away.you'll beg them to stay. though you know you have no choice but to let them go. then only you realize how much you love them and think to yourself (as if you were talking to them) "god, i love your smile" i love this line and i totally love this song. AVA, please keep making meaningful and good music. =)

I couldn't agree with Ferzaer more. Although this song is bittersweet, it is perfect. When you leave someone special - someone who you love, it feels like hell. You can't help but realize everything they meant to you. And oh God, do you ever love that smile.

I believe the meaning (to me) is about dreaming what it's like to love someone, and to imagine what you feel, but you're not with that person. You're alone, thinking about the possibilities to be in love with someone so much. So much that you imagine their smile is so beautiful and you love its presence so much. That smile. Her happiness. Her Joy. You get to experience it. Maybe even cause that smile to grow :-)

"A stone in a stream" - just another lifeless being in a stream of many stones... Yet, as you dream of this love, you're practically floating far away, living in this dream.

"A rat in a cage" - Helpless. Stuck. Alone. No purpose. Nothing to do but dream.

If I were in love... That smile would be so precious to me because it tells me that you're happy and that you share love with me.

"A laugh with a sting".. As if you're listening to this happening but it's not your laugh or your love's... Knowing that is like a bite from a snake. It hurts and leaves a poison within you. An ever present awareness that you do not have what you dream to be one of the greatest feelings to have.
