It's about a boy who is infatuated with a girl. The girl is the object of his affection but he is not really in love with her he is in love with being in love.
He not leave the girl alone, constantly calling and following her. It's the chase that he cares about not her. If he really loved her he would pay attention to recognize what her desires are. Instead, he is so obsessed with proving his love to her that he tunes out everything else, including the messages she leaves him rebutting his advances.

This song is about a guy that is stalking a girl. Whenever San Cisco play it at a concert they say, "this song is about stalking" before they play awkward. The actual definition of stalking is, however, unwanted and insistent contact, not following, so it makes perfect sense :)
