Allies, fire in the sky,
Splinters in the eye--
Don't know any better
Keep your arsenal at bay,
Live another day--
Pull yourself together
Every war you want to win,
There's nothing to defend--
Nothing to surrender
I don't want to fight alone
No one does
[Chorus]
Hey, look high and we look low,
We never find our enemy,
We never find our enemy
Somehow this war is out of control,
We never find our enemy,
We're gunning down whatever breathes
Last try, cross enemy lines,
Look out for the mines--
Buried in the mirror
Fall out, target's on the move,
Coming into view--
Coming in clearer
By now, there's no one else around,
Narrowing it down,
I guess I got to figure
One war is all I can afford,
No more
[Chorus]
Hey, look high and we look low,
We never find our enemy,
We never find our enemy
Somehow this war is out of control,
We never find our enemy,
We're gunning down whatever breathes
There we go
Wasting lives one way or another
There we go
Vacant eyes rearranging their color
Splinters in the eye--
Don't know any better
Live another day--
Pull yourself together
There's nothing to defend--
Nothing to surrender
No one does
We never find our enemy,
We never find our enemy
Somehow this war is out of control,
We never find our enemy,
We're gunning down whatever breathes
Look out for the mines--
Buried in the mirror
Coming into view--
Coming in clearer
Narrowing it down,
I guess I got to figure
No more
We never find our enemy,
We never find our enemy
Somehow this war is out of control,
We never find our enemy,
We're gunning down whatever breathes
Wasting lives one way or another
There we go
Vacant eyes rearranging their color

Is it possible it's about the war on terror? Or is war an analogy for something else?
to me, it sounds like it’s about a person that is their own worst enemy. They can’t find the enemy for the war they are fighting, because it’s themself. It’s the only war they can afford, because another person can’t reach the level of enemy-hood that the person is to themself. It’s a very beautiful song.
