Yesterday Was Hard On All Of Us Lyrics

Where do we go from here,
Where do we go?
Is it real or just something we think we know
Where are we going now,
Where do we go?
Cos if it’s the same as yesterday you know I’m out
Just so you know

Because
Because
Our paths, they cross
Yesterday was hard on all of us
On All of us

Who can we trust from here,
Who can we trust?
Are you real or something from wanderlust
Who can you can we trust my dear, sweet, flower,
Who can you trust?
From cradle to grave
From ashes to ashes, from dust to dust

Because
Because
Our paths, they crossed
Yesterday was hard on all of us
On All of us

Where do we go from here
Where do we go?
We’ve got nothing we can trust and nothing we can sell
That’s for sure
How do we get out,
How do we move around with all these eyes on us?
Tell you what, you go first
Almost like it’s kind of rehearsed but
It’s not, no

Because
Because
Our paths, they cross
Yesterday was hard on all of us
On All of us

This song sounds on House TV Series Final Season, on the episode when Dr Wilson decides to continue being Dr House's friend afterall. Very inteligent series, very good soundtrack selection. It made me discover this artist.

this song is about a man looking back at what he missed. he had an opportunity with a woman, they fell for each other. but they could only belong to each other in theory, they couldn't actually be together. life made it happen another way. but his feelings were true. and he knows that their encounter was somewhat meant to be ("our paths they cross"), but he doesn't know what is wrong or right, he doesn't know he should give up what he built up ("who can we trust from here"), and he is scared what would the other people say if they got together ("with all these eyes on us"). they have both been fantasizing so much about each other that they know exactly what would happen if they finally got together, they have been preparing for the 'real' thing ("it's almost like it's kind of rehearsed")... the man or woman probably married, with a kid... yesterday was hard on all of us --> they have been struggling to fight their feelings, but no matter what, they are real, they are here. and also, the woman has been present only in his head, but her presence is constant, but sometimes he wonders about how real it is since his love has never been embodied ("And are you real or just something from wanderlust?") --- funny enough i got to know fink when this exact situation happened to me with a married man... also recommending "nothing is ever finished" by fink as well. kinda similar theme... with awesome references to great gatsby.

I think the song refers to two people - good friends, most likely - that tried being in a relationship but it failed and now they're trying to work out their post-dating connection ("Where do we go from here").

Not only did their relationship fail, but being broken up is proving very difficult because their lives are still intertwined - they have the same social/family/community circles ("Because our paths they cross" "How do we move around with all these eyes on us")

The author seems to doubt that their love connection is authentic ("Is it real" "Are you real"). In addition, they both have reservations about finding future love with other people ("Who can we trust from here"). In fact, the author has a sort of hardened outlook on love ("From cradle to grave, ashes to ashes, dust to dust").

Those that say this song refers to a convoluted affair involving some sort of cheating or betrayal may be right, but I don't think that those elements are necessary in interpreting the song.

I'm simply blown away by the recording of this, the way the background vocals come from way out, far left and right. The harmony is fantastic!
