Creature Lives Lyrics
I saw the creature fall into the swamp from which he spawned
I heard them laugh and say they never liked him anyway
I tried to talk to them to help you on your feet again
they laughed and said to me the swamp is right where I should be
The creature lives
I heard them laugh and say they never liked him anyway
they laughed and said to me the swamp is right where I should be

"The swamp" in this song may represent the ignorance and close mindedness of the people. There are some unusual and different creatures that look outside, maybe who want to explore and experience different things. Most of the creatures are happy in that swamp and are afraid to go outside, thus they shun those who want to do so. The creature somehow fails to put his ambitions in real life and the others are happy about it. "Who is he to think and act differently? He got what he deserved." But you know, the creature lives so there is always hope.
On second thought, "the swamp" may represent the unfriendly, self centered, ignorant, selfish or corrupted state of today's society. (Basically everything wrong with this world right now.)
I really loved the lyrics of this song, so subtle and simple, but so full of heart. I have a feeling this is another reference to the Elephant Man, Joseph Merrick. Joseph Merrick could be the outcast creature in the song.
I'd say it's about the shunning of an individual ("the creature) by the group "them," as they refer to him/her as the creature.
Further when the person speaking in the song tries to help the creature back up and speak to the group, they tell him that he too belongs in the swamp with the creature.
As for the ending "the creature lives," I think this would be saying that while the group call the person shunned the creature, it's actually the group that is a "Creature" - abandoning individualism for the collective mentality, dismissing and excluding others
Previously, i was thou it such a "things" like Ogre, green ones like Shrek. Dirt and naughty on front. But honest and friendly on other side.
Later, after im re-reads the lyric, all i think is about BULLYING. superior vs inferior, kicks nerd ass, feeling proud bout it. Then the narrator(maybe person on group, or third party) try to save the creature(maybe nerd, or weaks guy)
So the "They" push and judge him (song narrator) as fuck as the creature. Very unfair.
I fucking love this song.
This song is inspired by the film "The Creature from the Black Lagoon". However, I think the song is a bit deeper than that and maybe it has something to do with one of the members childhood?
