Te Amo Lyrics

Te amo
Pretend you know the way out of the trap
And we will go to sleep
And we'll have the same dream

You can come around
When you're down
You're always down
Always down

When you're down
You're always down
You're always down

Te amo
I'll pretend you were the only one
And we will go to sleep
And we'll have such strange dreams

You can come around
When you're down
You're always down
You're always down

This song reminds me of sexual fluidity, or like romantic fluidity at least. When I first heard it I thought about two lovers, and one of them is dominant, the one who is planning what they're doing, even if it's just laying there, sleeping, on acid. When he says "i'll pretend you were the only one" i feel like he's saying that he has had these same happy and romantic moments with others, but it doesn't diminish the greatness or antiquity of them. like, you can be with a lot of other people, and love a lot of people, and the moments you share with them can be exactly the same, but completely distinctive because of the various emotions that specific person may make you feel.

My Interpretation

Go for it !

The words "te amo" in Spanish mean "I love you." And it fits so well with the rest of the lyrics. I just find this song so beautiful and romantic, even though there's obviously more than a touch of sadness here too. I think it is definitely the most romantic song he's done. Usually Atlas Sound/Deerhunter songs about love are... well, kind of creepy and/or depressing. (Though in a good/interesting way. I don't mean that to be insulting in the least).

Despite the melancholy laced within, I just find the idea of one and one's partner having wild, fantastic dreams together really gorgeous. Intense love is quite often like that though - both aching and wonderful at once. And "I'll pretend you were the only one..." That line really captures that feeling of sadness and happiness intertwined together so perfectly to me. Like I said... so romantic. :-)

"Romantic" doesn't have to be synonymous with happy. Lots of romantic things are sad, and I never said the line was a completely happy one. Like the rest of the song, to me it's a very mixed feeling.

I always viewed this song a romantic fantasy in which someone is trying to escape depression through love.but I could be wrong.
