A Place Only You Can Go Lyrics
Pain is alive in a broken heart
The past never does go away
We were born to love and we're born to pay
The price for our mistakes
Grace, she comes with a heavy load
Memories, they can't be erased
Like a pill I swallow that makes me well
But leaves an awful taste
Oh I know this song won't do
Enough to prove my love to you
In my heart you'll always know
There is a place only love can go
There is a place only you can go
Take my notions and words to heart
This is the cry of a man
I can't bring you fortune or noble life
But I'll love you all I can
Oh I know this song won't do
Enough to prove my love to you
But in my heart you'll always know
There is a place only you can go
Oh I know this song won't do
Enough to prove my love to you
In my heart you'll always know
There is a place only love can go
There is a place only you can go
The past never does go away
We were born to love and we're born to pay
The price for our mistakes
Memories, they can't be erased
Like a pill I swallow that makes me well
But leaves an awful taste
Enough to prove my love to you
In my heart you'll always know
There is a place only love can go
There is a place only you can go
This is the cry of a man
I can't bring you fortune or noble life
But I'll love you all I can
Enough to prove my love to you
But in my heart you'll always know
There is a place only you can go
Enough to prove my love to you
In my heart you'll always know
There is a place only love can go
There is a place only you can go

i'm confused about this song. because the first and second verses make it sound like he has accepted that he's lost his love (to someone else?). but then the third verse makes it sound like he is still trying?
NeedToBreathe is classified in the Christian genre and many of their lyrics have to do with Christianity. When this song is looked at from that perspective, it makes perfect sense. Rather than looking at this song as if it is being sung to a woman or a lover, look at it as if he is singing it to God. There is sin in life and pain as a result. The "Grace" that is being spoken of in this song is being personified with "she", but it is the grace that has been granted to sinners through the price that Christ paid on the cross. And, though our mistakes have been paid for "Memories, they can't be erased..."
"Oh I know this song won't do/ Enough to prove my love to you/ In my heart you'll always know/ There is a place only love can go/ There is a place only you can go..." I believe what the artist is saying here is that there is nothing that he can do to prove his love to God, but there is a place in his heart reserved only for God (1 John 4:16 "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. GOD IS LOVE. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.")
This is just my opinion coming from a Christian background.
I think that the awful taste that Grace leaves is because we can't pay back the love we received, as he sings "I'll love you all I can", even he knows that nothing will never be enough love.

This song is obviously directed to God from the singer's point of view. It's not about a woman or lover at all.
"Pain is alive in a broken heart The past never does go away We were born to love and we're born to pay The price for our mistakes"
Christianity teaches that while man was created to love God, he is a fallen creature who commits sin from birth, and sin must be paid for with a price.
"Grace, she comes with a heavy load Memories, they can't be erased Like a pill I swallow that makes me well But leaves an awful taste"
Grace is the solution God has provided to escape the penalty of sin, but while she (Grace) makes you well, your past sins leave a bitter aftertaste in your mouth.
"Oh I know this song won't do Enough to prove my love to you In my heart you'll always know There is a place only love can go There is a place only you can go"
This song isn't enough to prove the singer's love to God. It's not meant to. It's just expressing his love for God and the place in his heart that only God could go when he healed him with His grace.
"Take my notions and words to heart This is the cry of a man I can't bring you fortune or noble life But I'll love you all I can"
The singer knows he doesn't have anything to offer God that God does not already own. A life of true nobility is out of his reach, but he promises to love God with everything he has.
maybe he did lose her and he's telling her that even though he's made alot of mistakes in the past he still loves her and wants her to know that there will always be a place in his heart for her if she ever wants him back idk...
John 13:36 Simon Peter asked him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus replied, "Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later."
shell90 got it. I would add I think the 2nd verse is to his lady love and is a pledge to love her as Christ has loved him.
Ah, like the others said. While I'm not a Christian, this totally sounds like it's a song about Jesus' point of view.
