Oohs and Ahhs Lyrics
Take me back to a simpler time
I never knew the difference
And the words were mine
Another man could take it all in his stride
My tracks have left a stain
We were fresh coming off the vine
Thrown into a barrel of the cheapest wine
Bottled in a store with a neon sign
And we're all the ones to blame
Cause in our hearts we know it's true...
We got oohs, we got ahhs
We got everything a man could need
We got oohs, we got ahhs
Still got a mountain full of mouths to feed
Tear the ocean and the skies apart
Circle up the wagons underneath the stars
Watch us spin around like a meteorite
It goes down and down and down
Cause in our hearts we know it's true...
We got oohs, we got ahhs
We got everything a man could need
We got oohs, we got ahhs
Still got a mountain full of mouths to feed
Flashing the lights
Drawing us in
Flashing the lights
And then do it again
Flashing the lights
As the sirens call
Drawing us in
So they can watch us fall
We got oohs, we got ahhs
We got everything a man could need
We got oohs, we got ahhs
Still got a mountain full of mouths to feed
I never knew the difference
And the words were mine
Another man could take it all in his stride
My tracks have left a stain
We were fresh coming off the vine
Thrown into a barrel of the cheapest wine
Bottled in a store with a neon sign
And we're all the ones to blame
Cause in our hearts we know it's true...
We got everything a man could need
We got oohs, we got ahhs
Still got a mountain full of mouths to feed
Circle up the wagons underneath the stars
Watch us spin around like a meteorite
It goes down and down and down
We got everything a man could need
We got oohs, we got ahhs
Still got a mountain full of mouths to feed
Drawing us in
Flashing the lights
And then do it again
As the sirens call
Drawing us in
So they can watch us fall
We got everything a man could need
We got oohs, we got ahhs
Still got a mountain full of mouths to feed

I think this song is about the first disciples of Jesus and the apostles. They had one of the hardest jobs in the world, spreading a radical story that they didn't come up with on their own, wishing Jesus was still there with them. After all, he was able to do it all by himself. They were persecuted to the point of bloodshed and death – "my tracks have left a stain."
"We were fresh coming off the vine, thrown into a barrel of the cheapest wine. Bottles in a store with a neon sign and we're all the ones to blame." The disciples and apostles were brand new to this whole "sharing the Gospel" thing, and the world accepted it as trash. But they know it's true, so it's worth it.
The disciples and apostles performed miracles and got lots of attention. But imagine the real anxiety they must have had trying to feed "mountains" of people. They were just men!
I'm a Christian, and I think we can often feel like this. Our God is awesome and great and can do incredible things, but it sure is easy to get discouraged when we're thinking about our own abilities instead of God's ability through us.
I think it has more to do with the believer's struggle with sin:
Verse 1: "Take me back to a simpler time..." back to a time when people could say things and not have to worry about someone getting offended; a time when we just went with the flow instead of turning to alcohol and other substances to self-medicate. "We were fresh coming off the vine, thrown into a barrel of the cheapest wine...and we're all the ones to blame"--Christ is the Vine. We say we are going to follow Him, yet we turn to our own devices when trials are present. We only have ourselves to blame because He freely gives us what we need.
Verse 2: We have everything we need and then some, yet there are still those who are homeless and hungry. Why?
Chorus: Flashing the lights, drawing us in...drawing us in so they can watch us fall: The world tries to appeal to our senses and it often succeeds. However, the world is against Jesus. It is going to celebrate when believers are lured in and eventually failed by the world.
