A War Inside Lyrics

The devil on my shoulder tells me he's proud of me
That it takes a real man to look out for himself (and no one else)
I don't want to believe that
But sometimes it's easier to just stay silent!

I wish I knew how to speak out
I've never had a problem with words
But only when talkng to someone else (Talking with someone else)
There's a war inside me that's all my own
And I need to talk like a king to keep myself afloat
But how much longer until everyone knows?
(How much longer...until they know?)
(How much longer... until everyone knows?)

There's a war inside me that's all my own
(There's a war inside me...that's all my own!)

I should've started to take my own advice
From the moment that I started giving it
But I can only control what happens from here
And if none of this happened
Then I couldn't have heard...
The angel on my shoulder tells me he's proud of me
That it takes a real man to live for everone else before himself
I know I believe it
And it'll never get easier
But it will always be worth it
There's a war inside me that's all my own (All my own!)

I'm stll learning to speak out against myself
And stay on the path I truly want to be on
Though I've lost my way more times than I wished
My heart is constant and willing

I still believe that we were made for more
Than what I've been doing lately
This end of depression will be the start of getting back what I have lost
Because I had become conceited
But I'm making it back to where I last left off
And so I've shown you my heart
Will you restore me?

Cover art for A War Inside lyrics by We Came As Romans

he's trying to change his ways and walk the right path, the path of God, but hes constantly at war with his old self, conceited and self serving. he's learning to stand up to his old self, and realizes that if it werent for his actions it would not have led to him realizing that he is lost. he has always done what he told himself was the right thing to do, and has no problem bragging and preaching to others, all instead of looking to God for guidance. the angel and devil are illustrated amazingly on the album cover, along with the crown.

"and it'll never get easier, but it will always be worth it"

AMAZING lyrics

this song really defines what im going through in my life right now, and these guys hit the nail right on the head.

He makes no mentioned of god in this song. Although he does mention the devil and an angel on his shoulders, that is a common expression for the greater evil and the greater good.

He wants to become a better person and stay on the correct path for the sake of being a better person. Just because someone wants to improve their life and the way the live it, does not mean that they are motivated by god. Perfectly good people do not have god in their lives, and like I said, they are perfectly good people.

Not even close. We Came as Romans doesn't make any song directly referencing God or religion. If you find correlations that is just you reading into the lyrics. It has more to do with personal struggle and improvement.
