For me, the woman has lied and done terrible things to build her life with the one she loved, but she feels she has stolen sb's elses life so she tries to escape, leave everything behind. She feels she is the one to blame, and they can't revive their dreams cause they haven't tried hard enough to build them on honesty and efforts. She wishes she could "erase" her mind to forget her sins and lies. Sound more like a story to me, rather than a general meaning. a double agent or an assasin maybe? Beautiful song, kinda fits to the series "Nikita" to me...

Was thinking this might be talking about a relationship formed on a fake persona created by one side or the other. "waking up in someone else's life" - the life of a person who doesn't actually exist. "Even though this fragile world/is tearing apart at the seams" - maintaining a lie takes a lot of effort and likely the act won't be perfect. The whole "not gonna let this day go by" verse - throw away the false image and try being yourself. the "drowning in the mess I have made" part being that even if you do so, there are going to be repercussion, possibly overwhelming ones.
Its about living as a famous person with everyone expecting you to be perfect. She prob feels like she is being pulled down by the weight of her fans wanting her to be perfect
