You got me so wild
How can I ever deny
You got me so high
So high I cannot feel the fire
And you keep telling me
Telling me that you’ll be sweet
And you’ll never want to leave my side
As long as I don’t break these
Promises, and they still feel all so wasted on myself
Promises, and they still feel all so wasted on myself
Promises, and they still feel all so wasted on myself
Promises, and they still feel all so wasted on myself
You got me so wild
Why should I be so surprised?
You got me so high
Don’t you see it in my eyes?
And you keep telling me
Telling me that you’ll be sweet
And you’ll never want to leave my side
As long as I don’t break these
Promises, and they still feel all so wasted on myself
Promises, and they still feel all so wasted on myself

They are so wasted on myself

Well, this song begs a real sigh of hopelessness from its intended audience doesn't it?
The narrator's lover is promising them that they'll be sweet and faithful and want the narrator the return the promises. However, the narrator is using the song to tell their lover that even if they return the promises, the promises of the lover will still be wasted. In short, the narrator is/never will be either sweet nor faithful.
Such is life.
There are some very weird answers down there focusing on the video and ignoring the the lyrics, but I I don't find your interpretation convincing either. I don't known whether the singer believes she's going to break her promise or the other way round.

Basically positive that she says "Promises, and they still feel all so wasted on myself.." Instead of "Oh so wasted."
You're right. Too bad we can't edit these - LyricFind took over and yet again they are incorrect. sigh

I believe this is a depiction of a dystopian society similar to what is depicted in the novel, "1984". Society is being watched by "big brother" and are also controlled in every aspect of their lives to include emotions. It appears the female talks the male into deviating from the established protocol of that society as she has become in touch with her emotion, (hmmm sounds like the Biblical occurrence with Adam and Eve? Just sayin').
Anyway, in the video, the people are alienated from each other. They cannot even touch! Additionally, individualism is restricted by a government which has decided to control everything and take care of their needs to include self expression and emotion for each other.
Both decide to openly rebel and break the promises they have secretly made with each other fully knowing the consequences, probably hoping to ignite a spark of emotion in others in order to possibly topple the society of which they are living. Thus the promises they made with each other are a wast until they openly reveal to all that self expression and individual creativity are a good thing and should not be under control by the government they are under
. It appears they will pay a heavy price. Probably a lobotomy; speculative only of course.
I presume if this was actually made into a movie the main protagonist would be the female, and the secondary would be the male. I would also presume that both the male and female would find a way to overthrow this evil dystopian society by convincing others to be self reliant and not dependent on government to the point of relinquishing all freedoms, even the freedom to be self. It would have to be depicted in a futuristic type setting, say, 50 or 60 years from now; which is a possibility.
To me, the song is from the point of view of someone with low self-esteem or with a tainted self-image.
The verses build an atmosphere of "not good enough" and the chorus confirms that feeling: "They are so wasted on myself."
judging by the video clip a group of people have taken over the human race and use pills to control them. I'm guessing they don't feel emotions and are just like robots. Two people decide not to take the pill and they fall in love but nobody can know but they cant keep their love a secret like they promised each other and eventually the controllers find out and im guessing kill them or otherwise take them away and do something else to them
nice qoutes
The song is awsome.
"Promises, and it feels they're all so wasted on myself." That's what I always thought she was saying. I don't really hear "they"
I feel as if this song could not only be about a lover, but maybe a drug as well...
This song can have so many meanings. But after watching the video my thoughts are that this is mostly about big brother. The cameras (all seeing eye), The people behind the scenes controlling humans with technology and science. Its kind of like an awakening song that Katey Perry did (Wide Awake) Only this has love story twist.
