Cherry Blossoms Lyrics
I drive this car through the city every night
There's a quiet I never heard before
And lonely, my sister could not describe
All the good things gone wrong
And there was blood on my teeth
From the long winter here
Bones broke in half
A stain on my shirt
From a couple hours out with the boys
And all good things come to an end
And all memory has left my bones
If I drove straight off this bridge
Only God and my baby would know
I'm sure she'd be laughing, conjuring spring
With some fella who just said the right thing
And there'd be blood on my teeth
From the long winter here
Bones broke in half
A stain on my shirt
From a couple hours out with the boys
And all good things come to an end
See all I can do is think about you
And miss all your kisses like the spring
But if I had a sign
That one day you'd be mine again, oh no
If I could hold you right then
As the chill in this season sputtered and spit and died with...
Blood on my teeth
From just what they did here
Snow tumbling down on the ground
And me stumbling out of my heart
Finding cherry blossoms on the hood of my car
There's a quiet I never heard before
And lonely, my sister could not describe
All the good things gone wrong
From the long winter here
Bones broke in half
A stain on my shirt
From a couple hours out with the boys
And all good things come to an end
And all memory has left my bones
Only God and my baby would know
I'm sure she'd be laughing, conjuring spring
With some fella who just said the right thing
From the long winter here
Bones broke in half
A stain on my shirt
From a couple hours out with the boys
And all good things come to an end
And miss all your kisses like the spring
But if I had a sign
That one day you'd be mine again, oh no
If I could hold you right then
As the chill in this season sputtered and spit and died with...
From just what they did here
Snow tumbling down on the ground
And me stumbling out of my heart
Finding cherry blossoms on the hood of my car

Fuck this, in this 4:07 minutes I remembered that awful feeling. Great song.
Just some speculation:
He has been upset about his love leaving him (possibly for someone else) and has been dealing with it by going out to the bars, getting drunk, and then going for a drive to clear his head. This particular time he drifts into thoughts about her and begins to wonder what she would do if he were to drive off a bridge and kill himself. He's obviously bitter in thinking that she would just continue on with her life with a new man and think nothing of it. In the end, however, he drunkenly crashes his car into a cherry tree. He seems to just be injured as a result.
This may also be about someone close to him dying (maybe a child) instead of his love leaving him for someone else. Cherry blossoms tend to be a symbol for mortality for how beautiful they are and how quickly they die.
Or maybe it's a combination of both. I don't know.
That is horrible!!!! I cannot even bear the thought!!!!

I agree mostly with, ehm, holyballsack. With one difference. I think he does die at the end. The foreshadowing that goes on earlier in the song ("only god and my baby would know," "bones broke in half") to me leads to the line "Stumbling out of my heart," which could be to dying what "conjuring spring" is to having sex in Brian fallon's lyrical universe. Not to mention the refrain "All good things come to an end." Also the combined verse-chorus line of "As the chill in the season sputtered and spit and died with blood on my teeth" He obviously switches subjects in mid sentence, but doesn't that thematically lend itself to the idea that he doesn't make it out of that car?
I heard Brian talk a little about this track (it's been awhile, so I may not have the word-for-word interpretation) but from what I remember he said that it was just about that feeling you have when a relationship ends, and you sorta go through the seasons.
When you're happy in the relationship, you have the summer. The relationship dies in the fall, and you're left alone with the dead of winter to deal with it, but you know that once spring comes again everything will be okay.
