If I Had A Gun Lyrics
If I had a gun, I'd shoot a hole into the sun
And love would burn this city down for you
If I had the time, I'd stop the world and make you mine
And every day would stay the same with you
Give you back the dream, show you now what might had been
If all the tears you cry would fade away (away, away, away...)
I'll be by your side, when they come to say goodbye
We will live to fight another day
Excuse me if I spoke too soon
My eyes have always followed you around the room
'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I'm holding on and waiting for the moment to find me
Hope I didn't speak to soon
My eyes have always followed you around the room
'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I'm holding on and waiting for the moment for my heart to be unbroken by the scene
Let me fly you to the moon
My eyes have always followed you around the room
'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I'm holding on and waiting for the moment to find me
If I had a gun, I'd shoot a hole into the sun
And love would burn this city down for you
And love would burn this city down for you
If I had the time, I'd stop the world and make you mine
And every day would stay the same with you
If all the tears you cry would fade away (away, away, away...)
I'll be by your side, when they come to say goodbye
We will live to fight another day
My eyes have always followed you around the room
'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I'm holding on and waiting for the moment to find me
My eyes have always followed you around the room
'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I'm holding on and waiting for the moment for my heart to be unbroken by the scene
My eyes have always followed you around the room
'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I'm holding on and waiting for the moment to find me
And love would burn this city down for you

Well, obviously, [and according to a local radio station] this is a love song contrary to what its title sounds like. A possibly very deep, unrequited but hopeful love. Beautifully written.
@kathae Agreed. I too feel this song is about one loving another person and not receiving said feelings in return. Currently what I'm dealing with now.

This song to me is about finally meeting a person you have an impossibly deep connection with, and realizing that you'd actually do anything for them. It's like being in a crowded room, but being around that person makes all of the surrounding chaos seem like white noise. It's the sort of love where if something horrible happened to the other person, even if they dumped you or broke your heart, you wouldn't be able to live with yourself if they were suffering somehow.
I really love this song compared to other love songs because it feels more realistic. It's not about how love is perfect and nothing bad will ever happen in a relationship because two people are in perfect flawless love. It's more like learning to become a better person because the person you're with deserves the best.
@zeeshine great call - who would have thought Noel Gallagher could write such a meaningful and deep love song !!

To me this song is about being in love with someone who is already in a relationship with someone else. I fee the love is mutual, but that he is not in a position to do anything about it. He's holding on and waiting for the moment to find him. 'Hope I didn't speak too soon, my eyes have always followed you around the room' is explaining that this is someone he has known for a long time and he has finally told her how he feels. The lines 'If I had a gun, id shoot a hole in to the sun and I would burn this city down for you' shows that he knows that if he were to profess his true feelings to everyone, it would result in a lot of drama, and he's not in a position to do that at the moment. So he is admiring her from afar, his eyes following her around the room. 'I'll be by your side, and when they come to say goodbye, we will live to fight another day' is fantasising about how it would all play out. People would leave but they could go off and be together.
The speak too soon ... eyes have always followed you round the room .. only god I'll ever need verse is simply genius and well sung.
Clearly from the video it is either about unrequited/unspoken love or an old man looking back on his one true love. How nice.
As singer songwriters go he has a far better voice than Clapton, Thompson and Weller but we've had to wait for middle age/the departure of Liam for people to notice. Hope the other songs are as good.
I definitely feel this song is about one-way love.
"Hope I didn't speak too soon.." meaning there's some fear that expressing their true feelings may in fact be taken the wrong way and make matters worse.
