Wonder Lyrics
Well, I hold this love
Like the smallest bird
And I hear each sigh
Each tender word
Any hour spent
In a day with you
Is a moment's mercy
For a heart so blue
When there's only you in my world
When there's only you in my world
And we'll only talk
'Cause that's how things are
You're as far from me
As the farthest star
Oh and how I wonder
Wonder who you are?
When there's only you in my world
When there's only you in my world
One boy and just one girl
When there's only you in my world
And a heart will break
And a heart will mend
When I see your face
When we meet again
And that heart will hope
With all its might
For the briefest kiss
At the edge of night
Tell me why baby, why baby why
You make me cry baby, cry baby cry
I tell you no lie baby, lie baby lie
I'm gonna cry baby, cry baby cry
Like the smallest bird
And I hear each sigh
Each tender word
Any hour spent
In a day with you
Is a moment's mercy
For a heart so blue
When there's only you in my world
'Cause that's how things are
You're as far from me
As the farthest star
Oh and how I wonder
Wonder who you are?
When there's only you in my world
One boy and just one girl
When there's only you in my world
And a heart will mend
When I see your face
When we meet again
And that heart will hope
With all its might
For the briefest kiss
At the edge of night
You make me cry baby, cry baby cry
I tell you no lie baby, lie baby lie
I'm gonna cry baby, cry baby cry

To me, this song reads as a lullaby to an absent love - the oblique references to babies crying and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star reinforce it. That person is all that is in his world - to the point that he can only sing about her when she's not there.
I like your interpretation, but he should sing to her when she's there; it would mean so much more. Twinkle Twinkle is the only song that would calm one of my crying babies; I used to sing it (off key) many times over until s/he would fall asleep.
It's a waste of precious time to think about what might have been. Artists should whisper wise words in our ears and not fan our inner Berlusconi. Of course some artists merely want our bread.
I married the right person, and I shouldn't have married anyone else.
Furthermore, if I'd married someone else, marrying the right one wouldn't have happened. When I think way back to unhappier days I tell myself no, you weren't supposed to be happy until you met the someone to take you in hand.
I'm not annoyed by "Take my hand, take my whole life too, 'cause I can't help falling in love with you."
