Save Me Lyrics

In the mornings
I was anxious
Better just to stay in bed
Didn't want to fail myself again

Running through all the options
And the endings
Were rolling out in front of me
But I couldn't choose a thread to begin

And I could not love
Cause I could not love myself
Never good enough, no
That was all I'd tell myself
And I was not well
But I could not help myself
I was giving... up on living

In the morning
You were leaving
Travelling south again
And you said you were not unprepared

And all the dead ends
And disappointments
Were fading from your memory
Ready for that lonely life to end

And you gave me love
When I could not love myself
And you made me turn
From the way I saw myself
And you're patient, love
And you help me help myself
And you save me,
Yeah you save me,
Yeah you save me

Aw this song is gorgeous, and sad and hopeful all at the same time. It actually hits close to home for me. My boyfriend went through depression last year and he didn't know what to do with his life, told me he knew he was an awful boyfriend, hated himself etc. It was awful at the time. He's recovered from it now, but it was a tough time for the both of us. I definitely supported him through it because I loved him and I wanted him to get better. So yeah, I think of us when I hear this song.

Therefore, the meaning of the song is fairly self-explanatory (to me, anyway).

I read on Youtube that when Gotye played this song live in concert he dedicated it to his girlfriend. That's so sweet if it's true. :3

My Opinion

I believe the lyrics are pretty self-explainatory... this song is about a person who has been depressed and living without any interest or further meaning to its life. So, every morning this person wakes up feeling sad and indifferent... until this person finds another one that makes him love and aprreciate life...

My Interpretation

I quickly fall in love with a musician's work if it's artistic, it can be interpreted different ways through the eyes of someone who's going through something different or has experiencefd different things.

I completely understand your interpretation SamVerdin, and I feel it fits very well. However, my interpretation fits slightly different. The morning is the start of another life in the Cycle. The second stanza reminds me of the movie with Nicolas Cage who played someone who could see into his future. Every ending at which you look, it doesn't look like you'll ever exit the Cycle of Life, but continue a menial life in human form. Then someone comes along, perhaps a higher being like Jesus Christ or Buddha Gutuma, someone who was high up, and decided to come back down "travellin' south again" to save more people by showing them how to live. The "lonely life" is one not with the Father, or one that is with the Universe. This higher being showed the narrator true love, love that goes deeper or broader than that between a man and woman.

Basically a song about my life, except it ends with redemption.
