Heart's All Gone Lyrics
take off the gloves
we fell in love by the side of the road
this desert will break you down
the veins you cut
your smoking tongue is the end of us all
but you only care about
fame and fortune
watching others tortured
casting your reflection
grocery store perfection
this is the last time
sent to the front line
with dirty boots on the ground
you said I'll make this all mine
you seemed so sweet at the start but the start's all wrong
you say you speak from your heart but your heart's all gone
blackjack and architect
let's drink ourselves to death
the crimes of everyone
passed down from father to son
hopeless and destitute
destroyed my gratitude
your strongest lines of defense
are all just self-inflicted wounds
we fell in love by the side of the road
this desert will break you down
the veins you cut
your smoking tongue is the end of us all
but you only care about
fame and fortune
watching others tortured
casting your reflection
grocery store perfection
this is the last time
sent to the front line
with dirty boots on the ground
you said I'll make this all mine
you say you speak from your heart but your heart's all gone
let's drink ourselves to death
the crimes of everyone
passed down from father to son
hopeless and destitute
destroyed my gratitude
your strongest lines of defense
are all just self-inflicted wounds

You guys are over thinking this. Travis Barker wrote it about his ex-wife.
I think this is pretty clearly an Anti-Bush song. But why would they decide to leak politics into their music now? I'm not totally thrilled with that decision, but, still a rad song.
That's what I'm thinking it's about too. I've noticed a lot of bands have been doing that lately. Regardless, it's still an amazing song. Brings me back to the Dude Ranch days. :)

I think you're pretty clearly a fool to think they would ever leak politics into blink-182. My immediate reaction to this song along with anyone I ever listened to this song would agree that it's more than likely about Tom. I believe in an interview Mark said it would be impossible to not write about the past because that's what blink writes about. Broken relationships, and the broken relationships sang about in this album aren't about teenage heartbreak, it's about the separation of the band and coming back together. Listen to Kaleidoscope and This is Home and try to deny...

I see it being about Tom. Architect = Free Mason Tom's drinking
Also this song is only Mark on vocals with no backing from Tom. And Wishing Well is Tom's reaction/response to this song, and is also 100% Tom on vocals. They are also back to back in the tracklisting

I think it's about Tom too. the veins you cut, all just self-inflicted wounds. +44 talked about tom cutting in the song No It Isn't.
What i would recommend is for you to listen to the album backwards, like 14-1 it tells a story about love and each song tells of a part in the story
this is a song about Fighting, and Violence
Take Off The Gloves = Stop Fighting
You Only Care About Fame and Fortune = Greedy Person
Your Smoking Tongue Is The End Of Us All = Person Lies A lot
Watching Others Tortured = a Sadistic person
so its like this Boy/Girl see that the person that they are with is just a mean twisted person in the end, but at the start they were opposite of now.
the drums in this song are incredible, travis out did himself
Hi,
isn't this song about a guy who joined army for fame and fortune and then somewhere in the desert realized it was wrong and talks to his weapon?
This desert will break you down. - dust usually breaks weapons The veins you cut, - bullets cut veins Your smoking tongue is the end of us all. - barrel of a gun? But you only care about Fame and fortune, - when you win? Watching others tortured, - after someone is shot? Casting your reflection, Grocery store perfection. - accuracy of shooting? This is the last time, Sent to the front line, - front line? With dirty boots on the ground. - this would point to the army You said I'll make this all mine. - weapon promising to a soldier he will conquer the land by using it?
Chorus: You seemed so sweet at the start but the start's all wrong. - initial excitement and sympathy to guns? You say you speak from your heart but your heart's all gone. - dunno... maybe cold weapon?
Blackjack and architect. - mix of something that is precisely defined (architect) and something where you never know (blackjack)? Let's drink ourselves to death. The crimes of everyone Passed down from father to son. - some weapons are being passed from father to son imho (kind of family herritage), or some sons follow their fathers to serve in an army Hopeless and destitute. Destroyed my gratitude. Your strongest lines of defense Are all just self-inflicted wounds. - thinking about suicide?
