Skin It Back Lyrics

Well I'm waitin' for something to take place
Something to take me away from this race
'round city to city, town to town
Runnin' around in the shoes of a clown
And that desperate, no count, desperado
A thief of love
my business is the street
I be shakin' 'em down, in old Colorado
Texas she's nice, but Georgia's oh so sweet
Steal away with me darlin' your lovin' just can't be beat
So it seems
that the world keeps on turnin' but so what
I don't doubt it
it just keeps on the move

You're a dream
and that's all that I ask for so well now
I'm wonderin'
just how
I'm gonna tell it to you
Skin it back (skin it back)

Somethin' real
Somethin' to feel
I can't find a soul who'll take on this mess
It's those rock and roll hours, early graves without flowers
Please, please darlin' put my mind at rest
I'm beggin'
please darlin' put my mind at rest
So it seems
that the world keeps on turnin' but so what
I don't doubt it
It just keeps on the move

You're a dream
And that's all that I ask for
So well now, I'm wonderin'
just how I'm gonna tell it to you

Skin it back
tell it to you
Skin it back
tell it to you
Skin it back
tell it to you
Skin it back
tell it to you

"Skin it back” is an age old expression used by musicians and people living in the Delta. It means to "Roll up your sleeves and go harder". This is used with musicians meaning “Go for it”....... Ignore the comment in the post by @Rican below, he is an imbecile..

A great song like this only has one comment (ok, 2 now), and it's that crap? Anyway, in the South skin it back is a slang to go for it, get to work, git 'er done! The author is afraid to talk to the woman he wants to spend his time with and tell her how he feels and what he wants to do. So he's telling himself to skin it back, tell it to her, in other words, just do it.

You guys are way off! Paul Barrerre wrote the song, not Lowell George. Paul was not circumcised, thus the lyric-"You're a dream, and that's all that I ask for So well now, I'm wonderin' just how I'm gonna tell it to you Skin it back (skin it back)

The author is stressed from a life on the road. And all he wants is a little stress relief, some oral sex, pulling back (skinning) the foreskin of the penis for a better sensation.

Song Meaning

@Rican .. You're a fucking idiot.. Just because you're an expert at pulling back foreskin and sucking dick, does not qualify you to know shit about what this song means. Try researching the term "Skin it Back" you fucking assclown

@Rican,

You are way off the mark here. The song is about human connection, and the need for it.

A lot of Feat's songs written before Lowell George's death are focused on hookers. Fat Man in the Bathtub, Dixie Chicken and Skin It Back are 3 prime examples. There are several others as well, but the point I'm making is this is obviously a song that relates to an impending sexual encounter. The lyric that says, "I'm wonderin' just how I'm gonna tell it to you" sounds like someone who is very embarrassed to ask for something. The rest of the lyrics seem to back up the claim of multiple sex partners, for example:

"A thief of love, my business is the street I be shakin' 'em down In old Colorado Texas she's nice, but Georgia's oh so sweet Steal away with me darlin' your lovin' just can't be beat".

Here's a dude who's 'stealing' sex in 3 states and probably has to confront the very sticky proposition of telling another partner about how much better a blow job feels when the foreskin is pushed back on his uncircumcised penis. The song is clearly about embarrassment about asking for that. Call me a moron but it doesn't look like the song writer has any problem 'getting it done', 'rolling up his sleeves' or 'going for it' He's getting plenty, but is he shy when it comes to asking for some 'special considerations':

"Somethin' real, somethin' to feel".

Sorry you southern boys, you just ain't listenin' to the lyrics.

Song Meaning

@patrickajb Not a southern boy, but couldn't disagree more.

"I can't find a soul who'll take on this mess It's those rock and roll hours, early graves without flowers "

Sorry, your way off the beam...
