When the Wolf Comes Lyrics

When the wolf comes to your home
Rolls away the stone
And all your treachery is blown
All your horses have been broken
Truth is but a token
And your guts they are still cold
All your chances have been spurred
Evidence burned
And all your missions have been flown
And all your enemies are faced
Your teeth are in their place
And you're left standing all alone

And it's your final time to party
Im'a lay right there on my stone
I said love is stronger than bones
Love is stronger than bones

When the wolf comes to your door
The ceiling fucks the floor
And all your stitches have been sewn
And you would sink without a trace
Cannot stand the taste
And all the flesh it has been shown
And all your candles have been brazed
Ceased to be amazed
By what you take to be your own
And all the platitudes spoken
Children have been woken
When this house is not a home

And
There's a final time to party
I'ma lay right there on my stone

I say love is stronger then bones

Love is stronger then bones x 5

When all the smack has been shot
And the wolf's turned to hunt
And all the doctors ask why
And all the fire in your heart
And all the pain it has been stripped
The instructions they're ripped
The psychiatrist is flipped
Your balance has been tipped
And the wolf comes to kiss
The targets have been missed
Oh Your fingers make a fist

It all comes down to
It all comes down to this

If it's a final time to party
Im'a lay right there on my stone

Love is stronger then bones x8

Cover art for When the Wolf Comes lyrics by Kill Devil Hills, The

This song, from what I gather, is about the evil in people. Specifically, the evils of addiction. The verses seem to recount relapses from different perspectives. The first verse is in reference to the addict, where they feel they are in life, why they use, etc. The second seems more from the partner/child perspective; it's as if the songwriter is now using the wolf as metaphor for the addict him/herself, arriving come and causing chaos.

The third verse, I'm honestly not sure who it's written for. It could go either way.

The mantra, which is probably the highlight of the song changes the entire mood of it all; love is stronger than pain. An addiction (to anything, mind you,) to hate, to greed, even to bones cannot match the power of love.

This mantra may actually be what the victim utters, and why the victim ultimately stays with the wolf. Or, it could be what the recovering addict says to themselves as part of recovery.

"If it's a final time to party Im'a lay right there on my stone"

First off, stone as in stone sober. Secondly, those who need a think are referred to as "laying on their stone." The mantra following that stanza more overtly lets you know that, at least from the songwriter's perspective, they're done with the drugs/drink.

Beautiful song, and very powerful.
