Called Out In the Dark Lyrics
It's like we just can't help ourselves
cos we don't know how to back down
we were called out to the streets
we were called into the towns
and how the heavens they opened up
like arms all dazzling gold
with our rain-washed histories
well we do not need to be told
show me how
show me the arms aloft
every eye trained on a different star
this magic
this drunken semaphore
we are listening
and we're not blind
this is your life
this is your time
we are listening and
we're not blind
this is your life
this is your time
I was called out in the dark
by a choir of beautiful (?)
and as the kids took back the parts
you and I were left with the streets
show me now
show me the arms aloft
every eye trained on a different star
this magic
this drunken semaphore
we are listening
and we're not blind
this is your life
this is your time
we are listening
and we're not blind
this is your life

The lyrics are:
I was called out in the dark, By a chair of beautiful heat, And as the kids took back the parks, You and I were left with the streets.
From the booklet inside the album.

I think this song is about society. And how everyone has their own opinions, thoughts, and philosophies. How everyone fights about who's wrong and who is right but,it's not exactly that one of them is wrong or right, they're all just looking at things from their own perspective.
How did you come up with that? (Nevermind...you spelled elephant "elefant." LOL)

I suppose it's his life and his time to shine, but who knows. I like the song and the sound, but prefer the "old" Snow Patrol. For me, techno and Gary just don't seem to flow.
I have listened to this song lots now and I really like it. I believe the (?) = cheats and (parts = parks) like BlondeAlby says and also " our rain washed histories' next line should = they do not need to be told. The meaning I took from it is dont believe everything you hear and see, we should make our own choices for ourselves
I thought it was "this magic, this drunken semaphore"... Great song. :)
I think this song is about how people are protesting for what they believe in. It's about how everyone has their own opinions and everyone fights with each other about who's wrong, who's right, and why. They're angry:"We are listening, and we're not blind". But, everything is sort of chaotic, and everyone has their own hopes: "It's like we just can't help ourselves, cause we don't know how to back down". And in the end, their protests get through, sort of: "And as the kids took back the parks, you and I were left with the streets".
I don't know about the sound of it, if I like it or not. As for the meaning it feels more like young live which is odd because well... Gary isn't exactly young anymore.

Just heard this song. I actually really like it! I'm a fan of electro-dance music, and I'm open to bands embracing and incorporating dance into their music as well, which is probably why I'm not annoyed that Snow Patrol have deviated from their 'usual' sound. I can't wait to hear the new EP, not to mention the new album, which I've heard is a lot more techno based. Quite excited!
I think it is:

Beautiful song <3
Anyone know what they sing in between the lines that sounds like Shout, or Shut or Shuck or just Sha?
To me it just sounds like "Shp" where the "p" (the hard stop to the sound) is from an editing cutoff.
