Without a Word Lyrics
Hey you can tell the world
That you're leaving
And you can pack your bags
And spread your wings
And you can tell them all
That it's over
But while you wave goodbye
I'll be getting closer
Stand there and look into my eyes
And tell me that all we had were lies
Show me that to you it don't count
And I'll stand here if you prefer
Yes I'll leave you without a word
Without a word
And you can tell the world
That you're tired
But your excuses, they won't work
'Cause I'll know that you're lying
Every time that I see your face
I notice all the suffering
Just turn to my embrace
I won't let you come to nothing
Stand there and look into my eyes
And tell me that all we had were lies
Show me that to you it don't count
And I'll stand here if you prefer
Yes I'll leave you without a word
Without a word
That you're leaving
And you can pack your bags
And spread your wings
And you can tell them all
That it's over
But while you wave goodbye
I'll be getting closer
And tell me that all we had were lies
Show me that to you it don't count
And I'll stand here if you prefer
Yes I'll leave you without a word
Without a word
That you're tired
But your excuses, they won't work
'Cause I'll know that you're lying
Every time that I see your face
I notice all the suffering
Just turn to my embrace
I won't let you come to nothing
And tell me that all we had were lies
Show me that to you it don't count
And I'll stand here if you prefer
Yes I'll leave you without a word

Gorgeous song. It reminds me of Sherlock and Molly's relationship in BBC Sherlock aha.
I love Sherlolly :D
I love Sherlolly :D
At first, this song to me was a love song, but not an ordinary one. It was about a relationship that was spiraling downwards to the point of the man (or it could be a woman too) leaving, and that man/woman was saying that it meant nothing, and kind of being nonchalant about it.
Then I realized this song could mean so much more. I then interpreted it as a father leaving his daughter, which makes the emotional impact even more heavy, yet it works the same way. And then I opened it up into a bunch of new possibilities, like a friend bad-mouthing you behind your back even though you know that your friendship means a lot to them.
So, overall, this song is about someone leaving someone. It doesn't matter who, just that that person meant a lot. (:
This reminds me of my friend a lot. We knew each other very well about 6 years ago, but then we fell out of touch. We started reconnecting two years ago, and at that time, she was going through some major depression and suicidal thoughts (at the time, she told me none of this, because she was afraid I might judge her). When she told me about what she was going through at that time (just half a year ago) she expressed to me that if it wasn't for me being her friend during this time, I may not even know her today. I am not trying to brag or anything of that sort, I just found these lyrics to really relate to what I went through. "And spread your wings And you can tell them all That it's over" Sounds a lot like whoever the song is about is not just moving or ending their relationship, but leaving Earth. Now I guess it's possible this song is about an astronaut, but it seems more likely that Birdy wrote this about someone she knew that was suicidal.
