Up All Night Lyrics
Everyone wants to call it all around our life with a better name
Everyone falls and spins and gets up again with a friend who does the same
Everyone lies and cheats their wants and needs and still believes their heart
And everyone gets the chills, the kind that kills when the pain begins to start
Lets get this straight, do you want me here,
As I struggle through each and every year
and all these Demons, they keep me up all night
They keep me up all night,
They keep me up all night,
Everyone's cross to bear's a crown they wear on endless holiday
Everyone raises kids in a world that changes life to a bitter game
Everyone works and fights, stays up all night, to celebrate the day
And everyone lives to tell the tale of how we die alone some day
Let's get this straight, do you want me here,
As I struggle through each and every year,
And all these demons, they keep me up all night,
They keep me up all night
They keep me up all night
Everyone falls and spins and gets up again with a friend who does the same
Everyone lies and cheats their wants and needs and still believes their heart
And everyone gets the chills, the kind that kills when the pain begins to start
As I struggle through each and every year
and all these Demons, they keep me up all night
They keep me up all night,
They keep me up all night,
Everyone raises kids in a world that changes life to a bitter game
Everyone works and fights, stays up all night, to celebrate the day
And everyone lives to tell the tale of how we die alone some day
As I struggle through each and every year,
And all these demons, they keep me up all night,
They keep me up all night
They keep me up all night

I think it's just talking about how everyone has to deal with their demons/struggles everyday, and I dont know, maybe find comfort in the fact that we're not alone because everyone else is fighting through the same thing?
Anyway. I actually love the song despite the negative criticisms about it. It doesn't sound completely like the old blink, but face it, they've grown up and it affects their sound too. They're still awesome no matter what. Looking forward to the rest of the album!
I've been a huge blink fan my whole life and I really, really enjoyed this song. Not only is the sound a welcome fusion of elements from Boxcar and A & A, but the lyrics especially have that heartfelt sincerity that's present in their best songs. Fantastic single.
Oh sorry forgot to input my interpretation of the song! I definitely agree with everyone who's said that it's about how everyone is haunted by their own demons and insecurities, but I also love that the lyrics are full of well-worded juxtapositions and ironies ("Everyone works and fights, stays up all night, to celebrate the day" or " Everyone raises kids in a world that changes life to a bitter game"), that echo the existential dilemmas faced by adulthood. This could definitely relate to the band's past struggles, but I believe they're quite universal in nature... something kind of unusual coming...

Ah well, hopefully the album isn't too stadium in nature. Or if it is, let's hope it's good.
Nice. Not quite sure what it means, I was trying to look at it in terms of feelings leftover from Blink's breaking up and subsequent reunion after Travis' accident. Dunno, but can't wait for August 20th baby! Chicago, here I come!
Booo they chose your lyrics over mine! Oh well, I was missing like four words I just couldn't decipher, kudos!
As for the meaning, I'm going to agree with PurpleDee as it was close to what I had in mind for this as well. Tom seems to be singing about positives in life while Marks sings about negatives in the versus, and the chorus seems to state that no matter what side of the fence you're on, everyone has their demons (obviously) as well as their differences, but you shouldn't let that fault you because we can all get through it together ("lets get this straight, do you want me here?"). That's just me though.
I agree. I think with their time off from each other, the different projects, that this is the only logical step forward for the band. It's reminiscent of Box Car Racer, Angels & Airwaves, and the last album all in one song. The lyrics make it seem like they've finally realized what life is about, and how to go about it all. And most of all, I think they're finally happy with where they are as a band. All of them have different projects, and family, that they are busy with, and that's alright with them. They realize that all of these other things, which were at one time obstacles, are now the creative juices that's keeping them all together. Fantastic song. Can't wait for the show in Milwaukee on August 23rd, and "Neighborhoods" on September 27th.
the chorus sounds like a guy asking god if he really wants him to stay on earth and deal with the evil around for example abusive drugs, hardcore parties, violence and corruption. the idea is extended by saying "all these demons [the negative points of life] they keep me up all night [prevent him from dreaming - maybe of a happier place or a better future]"
at first it sounds depressing but at the same time there's a hint of faith in it as he is asking god whether if it is the right choice - so he isn't decided yet if the world is worth living for
the verses also hold negativity but also a sense of togetherness; for example the line "everyone falls and spins and gets up again with a friend who does the same" suggests that everyone has low times in their lives but they will recover and "get up" with a friend who has gone through the same situation. so it shows that we are not alone. The idea that everyone goes through the same kind of shit in life is strengthened by the fact that every line in the verse uses the word "everyone" at the start.
so in conclusion i feel the song is about life, not the emo-nobody-likes-me extreme but also not the hollywood-happy-go-lucky kind of life expressed in happy songs. its just an honest view of how life is, both good and bad; but no matter how life turns out to be we will always be connected by the strength of human love and understanding (no matter how little might be present today, it is there, somewhere!).
great song btw, hated it first time i listened but kept it on repeat. now i love it - blink-182 continue to amaze me.
I'm not gonna try to decipher the lyrics or anything, I just want to say that I've waited almost 8 years for a blink song and here it is. Some people are saying that this song sounds like crap blah blah blah, but this song fuckin delivers. Sounds like a blend of AVA/BCR, this song grew on me quickly. Can't wait to see them in Hershey wooooooooo!
How does this song only have 6 comments!?!
Blink has been gone almost a decade without a song, and they release this epic song and im on the first page!!!!!!
i agree wholeheartedly with Jagrobby182. ive been waiting patiently and this song is AMAZING
The chorus is a little too much AVA but this song.. incredible
cheers to the previous posters for their insightful comments. i agree with the post about how they are incorporating familiar elements from blink and the blink side projects, but they also blend new and fresh sounds into this song. i enjoy the hardcore guitar intro and the evenly shared vocals of mark and tom.
WE (humans) ALL DEAL WITH THE SAME SHIT.
