Never Never Lyrics

It's complicated when you gravitate towards yourself.
On the other hand it's hard to talk to anyone else.
You can't help-can't help where your mind goes.
So lets' harvest on the moon with the autumn snow.

'Cause I've never, never had so much to gain and threw it all away.
And if I ever, ever had the chance again I'd probably do the same.
Singing ooooh, I've only let you down.
Singing ooooh, I've left you the crown.

Open up open up to see your, see your face,
Watching yourself in your dreams like wide awake.
Hoping hoping you'll return my calls.
Convince myself on my health that it's not my fault.

'Cause I've never, never had so much to gain and threw it all away.
And if I ever, ever had the chance again I'd probably do the same.
Singing ooh I've only let you down.
Singing ooh I've left you the crown.

Ahhhhh...
Ooooh....
Ahhhhh...
Ooooohh...

No one ever had so much to gain or so much to lose.
No one ever had so much to gain or so much to lose.
No one ever had so much to gain or so much to lose.

If I ever had, If I ever had, if I ever had another...

See I've never never had so much to gain and threw it all away.
And if I ever ever had a chance again I'd probably do the same.
Singing ooooh I've only let you down.
Singing ooooh I've left you the crown.

See I've never never had so much to gain or had so much to lose.
And if I ever ever get past the shame and get through the bruises.
Singing oooh I'll never let you down.
Singing oooh I never left the crown.

One of my favorite verses in any song. If I was being honest, all narcissistic verses like these really connect to me. I'm 24, single, in the job hunt, with absolutely no responsibilities outside of myself. I just love the "So let's harvest on the moon with the autumn snow" line. Great imagery. The moon is barren, and an autumn snow diminishes crop harvest. There is really nothing to gain in this situation. In the grand scheme of life, moment-to-moment thoughts are really meaningless. But still, while alone (a lot of the time), I "can't help where my mind goes" and I get stuck in a thought-loop, and nothing ever comes of it. It's hard though, when you are in my position, with no one else to care much about, to not get stuck in these thought-loops and "gravitate towards yourself." And it is "hard to talk to anyone else" because the thoughts you might have are so hard to connect with someone else. Great metaphors non-the-less!

As for the rest of the song and the song as a whole, I'll leave that to someone else. :)

Happy listening,

Eric

"It's complicated when you gravitate towards yourself. On the other hand it's hard to talk to anyone else. You can't help-can't help where your mind goes. So lets' harvest on the moon with the autumn snow."

This could apply to any relationship whether it be a daughter and her father, etc. But I'm just going to go ahead and apply this to a relationship. During a breakup (maybe they've done something terrible, maybe they haven't), especially if you're the dumpee, it's very hard to focus oneself when all you can think about is how much everything is your fault. Picking up on what RiceThongs has said about harvesting on the moon, it is about afterwards not putting forth the work into someone/something that's not going to gain anything but heartache.

"Cause I've never, never had so much to gain and threw it all away. And if I ever, ever had the chance again I'd probably do the same. Singing ooooh, I've only let you down. Singing ooooh, I've left you the crown."

Now, maybe the person has realized what they think or what they know they did wrong. Now, the person is still trying to revive that relationship but in doing so it's pushing that person away further. If they accpeted the situation and let it be, then there would be something to salvage. But, they know trying to get back into this there is a high chance of it happening again if it has already happened once. He/She left them their pride, their emotions, their feeling, everything-----the crown because they have the power.

"Open up open up to see your, see your face, Watching yourself in your dreams like wide awake. Hoping hoping you'll return my calls. Convince myself on my health that it's not my fault."

The first two lines could refer to he/she dreaming of the relationship at it's peak and comparing themselves to what's now. Or possibly opening them to tell them what did and how to change it. It's upsetting. He/She calls and calls and they really want to make it work. It's draining them (depression, stress, etc), and at this point it's very hard to prove to themselves that it's not their fault

"See I've never never had so much to gain or had so much to lose. And if I ever ever get past the shame and get through the bruises. Singing oooh I'll never let you down. Singing oooh I never left the crown."

He wants to start everything over. Maybe not with them, but with themselves. They are now ashamed of what they became and what they had to do to try and make someone happy and sacrifice their own (crown part earlier). So in the end, they vow if they ever get through their current pain maybe this will prove to the person their pining for that they have changed. They will then see themselves taking control of whatever they gave that person because it's theirs (I never left the crown)

It's a really nice song to listen to especially late at nights or when thinking...
