Spitting Blood Lyrics
Now were spitting blood
spitting blood
like the golden sun god
golden sun god
I was born into plastic fame
read his tattoo
but it don’t matter were all in the same
ship sailing to what we hold as true
I got the star of David hanging over me
But oh mother Mary I find it hard to believe
That some ones hands no different to mine
could be hung on a wall
held as divine
We are so happy
happy to see
All of our children will run blind and free
Across concrete fields of broken glass
with five year olds having heart attacks
You fed em to well on TV
cut me I wont even bleed
My bloods as lazy as the mums and dads
whos fantastic mundane can’t all be bad
So lets just keep eating more, more, more, more and more
And then we all go throw up on the poor
Outside I’m lying
inside I’m dead
The tears in my eyes
fall from books I have read
If I could talk to you
And only speak the truth
All this wolf noise wouldn’t start calling now
when I talk to you
when I talk to you
We are so happy
happy to see
all of our children will run blind and free
Spitting blood
spitting blood
golden sun god
golden sun god
spitting blood
like the golden sun god
golden sun god
read his tattoo
but it don’t matter were all in the same
ship sailing to what we hold as true
But oh mother Mary I find it hard to believe

is it necessarily something before society? generally seems to just be anti-capitalist and perhaps anti-Judeo-Christian (although after hanging out with these dudes I'm sure they'd reject both of those labels). maybe that's going to far. what is clear is they don't like money, they don't like excess, they do seem to worship youth and look down on 'adulthood'...
...or maybe moreover have a conflicted relationship with 'animality' given the obsession with it in their lyrics yet no clear reverence like with youth or nature per se...in this song, he wishes he could speak to this important person without his wolf noises as he has been speaking all this time (and ostensibly throughout the album)
They seem to be wanting to return to something before this society, viewing the glorification of subjects like human-animals and golden sun gods, contrasted against the largely negative light which is put upon modern things like plastic, TV & excess of food.
This song seems to be about religion and the songwriters skepticism about his beliefs/support of religion. For example the 3rd stanza states "I got the star of David hanging over me..But oh mother Mary I find it hard to believe..That some ones hands no different to mine..could be hung on a wall..held as divine" This is the singer calling out Jesus if anything. 'The hang on the wall' part being the cross jesus was hung on, which is commonly found in christian homes hanging o the wall. He's skeptic because Jesus's hand is just as his own, so how can he be all powerful (devine)?
The singer then points out his skepticism of religion, especially how it influences children. The 4th stanza says "We are so happy to see..All of our children will run blind and free." By this the writer is simply saying 'we (everyone) don't give a fuck if religion brainwashes our children.' He even goes on to sing "you fed em [children] too well on tv" which again points out religion's and the media's brainwash of children.
"The tears in my eyes..fall from books I have read..If I could talk to you And only speak the truth" This is a really strong lyric, and a sad one. The writer/singer is pretty much saying that he reads all of these religious books (Bible most likely) but doesn't believe in them, though he wishes he does believe in them. 'If' indicates that he does not believe what is written in the Bible (assuming it's the Bible he's reading). Though he does not believe, he wants to know the truth from a higher being (God[s]). Probably the most depressing lyric of the song, because he wishes he can honestly talk to someone he does not believe.
This is a great song, and has a great meaning, though it's vague. Gotta give respect to the singer about singing about such a sensitive subject.
