This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
Written in graffiti on a bridge in a park
Do you ever get the feeling
That you're missing the mark?
It's so cold, it's so cold
It's so cold, it's so cold
Written up in marker on a factory sign
I struggle with the feeling
That my life isn't mine
It's so cold, it's so cold
It's so cold, it's so cold
See the arrow that they shot trying
To tear us apart took the fire from my belly and
The beat from my heart
Still I won't let go
Still I won't let go
You, ooh, ooh
Oh you, use your heart as a weapon
And it hurts like heaven
On every street, every car, every surface in nature
And at the streets are rising and you'd rather sing
Don't let them take control
No, we won't let 'em take control
Yes, I feel a little bit nervous
Yes, I feel nervous and I cannot relax
I'm coming 'round to get us
I'm coming 'round when they don't know the facts
So on a concrete canvas and a glow in the dark
On a concrete canvas, I will make you a mark
Armed with the spray can soul
Let me out with the spray can soul
You, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh
'Cause you use your heart as a weapon
And it hurts like heaven
Whoa-oh-oh
Whoa-oh-oh
Yeah, it's true, when you
Use your heart as a weapon
And it hurts like heaven
Oh and it hurts like heaven
Do you ever get the feeling
That you're missing the mark?
It's so cold, it's so cold
It's so cold, it's so cold
Written up in marker on a factory sign
I struggle with the feeling
That my life isn't mine
It's so cold, it's so cold
It's so cold, it's so cold
See the arrow that they shot trying
To tear us apart took the fire from my belly and
The beat from my heart
Still I won't let go
Still I won't let go

And it hurts like heaven
On every street, every car, every surface in nature
And at the streets are rising and you'd rather sing

Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Gave the live version of this a listen. Its definitely better than Paradise and Every Teardrop is a Waterfall but overall I'm still not excited about this album anymore. They've left behind any artistic sensibilities and have gone into poppy high selling music that is mindless, repetitive, and easy to sing in the car lyrics that don't inspire anything but shallow, mindless feelings. Admittedly Major Minus was a good song, and I'm expecting a lot from the rest of the album after two phenomenal good albums and the fun and interesting "Viva" but I'm worried. Hurts Like Heaven is part one of the story on this concept album and so far its incoherent and frustrating. They haven't written anything this bouncy and poppy before and while I'm up for a new coldplay this is decisively NOT something I want from them
Coldplay has always been poppy, where the hell have you been? They've never had deep lyrics either lol. They are just trying something different and to me it seems like they're having fun with it. Maybe fun isn't your thing. Maybe you find it too shallow and unartistic ;)
@grimangelix...coldplay lyrics have never been deep? excuse me, but where have YOU been? and Coldplay has not always been "poppy". Please, do your research and make sure you know the band before making idiotic comments like that. I agree, this album is slightly more upbeat than others and has a different sound, but that's not a bad thing, it is bound to happen as a band matures. Go back and listen to the albums X&Y, Parachutes, and even A Rush Of Blood To The Head. Don't try to tell me that's 'poppy'.
@Hero of the Day<br /> You will not find a "new" Coldplay.<br /> People change. <br /> I know its not easy that this Awesome Band change but we all change.
Look at the stars<br /> Look how they shine for you<br /> And everything you do<br /> Yeah, they were all yellow<br /> <br /> I came along<br /> I wrote a song for you<br /> And all the things you do<br /> And it was called "Yellow"<br /> <br /> oh god the the deepness.....im drowning in it :p<br /> <br /> Did I drive you away?<br /> I know what you'll say,<br /> You say, "Oh, sing one we know,"<br /> But I promise you this;<br /> I'll always look out for you,<br /> That's what I'll do.<br /> <br /> I say "ohhhhhhhh,"<br /> I say "ohhhhhhhh.<br /> <br /> loooooooooooooooooooooooool pop<br /> parachutes was extremely pop rock <br /> This isn't the first time coldplay have done pop. I do think this is the first time they've done bouncy synthy stuff though.<br /> <br /> <br />
well, i've got to say yellow has slightly more substance then 'caaaliiforniaaaa gurlss we're unforrgettable daisy duukes bikiniss on top!" thats what i'm assuming is being suggested my 'poppy'. you seem to be the shallow and unartistic one
There're different shades of pop. What I mean by saying that coldplay was always pop is that their songs are pretty simple and safe both lyrically and musically. lately theyve tried some new stuff with viva and mylo but its still in the safe pop zone where the general audience will still like them. Im not saying that coldplay are a bad band or anything but they are sure as hell not deep and artistic lol. They just make pretty music. I dont want this to degrade into a name calling thing so sorry if I offended anyone.
Guys, who gives a rip how "artistic" or "deep" something is? Let people have their taste in music.. Differences, kids. They're what make us unique.<br /> @sarerra Why does it bother you so much that other people like "shallow" music? It's their life, their decision. And what makes you qualified to decide what's artistic or not? (That's a genuine question; I would really like to know. It's not a snarky rhetorical question.)<br /> People need to learn to be tolerant. Goodness.
I actually agree with grimangelix on this one. Does that mean that you can't enjoy Coldplay for who they are? Absolutely not. But I mean, take a look at the lyrics from Paradise: "When she was just a girl She expected the world But it flew away from her reach so She ran away in her sleep and dreamed of Para-para-paradise". To me, at least, this is just like saying "once upon a time there was a boy who really wanted to reach his goal but he didn't make it, what a shame!". I don't know, maybe it does it for some people, but not myself personally. That being said, Paradise is by far my favourite song on the album, love the bass drop leading into the hook, and the simple but powerful guitar solo. Great song writers.<br /> <br /> Coldplay definitely does have some deeper songs as stated above, but for the most part I have to agree with grimangelix. <br /> <br /> Also you can notice on this album they are using alot more electronic kicks, synths and autotune (specifically on hurts like heaven). Still great music, but not what they used to do.<br />
My first impression of the album was that they had gone poppy. The album has begun to grow on me, it is not as deep or non-mainstream as viva la vida but it is still good. Not what i expected but still i like it. Change is ok, accept it.
I kind of agree with both sides. In the end music is music and if it makes you happy then that's all that should matter.<br /> I read in an article (or maybe it was on Ellen) that Chris Martin admitted the lyrics in Mylo Xyloto were a little less deep and he was kind of embarrassed. Granted, they're all very humble. But I think regardless of how "poppy" they sound I think they have the fantastic ability to display real emotions, even through simple lyrics, which is hard to find in most main stream music these days.
I just don't get this.. ok, previous songs were full of acoustic sounds, but i m happy coldplay changing a bit.. its all about melody, and when u tune on mylo xyloto u start to feel excited... I think you like songs like parachutes, amsterdam, a message, what if, til kingdom come, trouble etc. but u hv to admit that as band grows up they r bound to sound differently.. man! he got gwyneth in this journey of 15 years of coldplay, having cute babies, how can u want to him to write songs about never ending solitude and so on.. If u truly love coldplay, u must have trust for them, as long as they are alive, they will be amusing us.. ^_^
