The Collapse of the Great Tide Cliffs (Blue) Lyrics

I thought that I was framed
Front and center,
But I’m distant
And your depth of field is shallow.

Low light turn to night
And all can be ignored.
Blind eyes, preoccupied
With the surface more than the core.
Low, low...

Though my lens is cracked,
Right down the center I saw you,
And through shattered light,
Your beauty remained flawless.

Low light turn to night
And all can be ignored.
Blind eyes, preoccupied
With the surface more than the core.
Low, low...

To me this is about sleeping with someone you had an emotionally intense relationship with, but it's over for whatever reason and you're still using each other for sex. The sex isn't deep and loving like it used to be though, its purely physical and shallow now.

To me this is about being left by someone you love for someone physically more appealing, but for no other reasons than that.

"I thought that I was framed front and center" makes me think that the narrator was in a relationship where they thought the other person was devoted 100% to them, but in reality was lusting after another person.

"Your depth of field is shallow" and "Blind eyes preoccupied with the surface more than the core" lead me to believe that she cheated or left him for this other man who was more physically appealing, though the "core" (personality, etc) may have not been as good as what the narrator saw himself to be.

But her beauty remains flawless. He still loves her even though he left him for this muscle bound, GQ-looks oaf.

As with every song, open to interpretation. But that is what I get out of this.
