Further Away Lyrics
My father he told me what goes around,
Comes, comes around again
The faces you see on the way up
Are those on the way back down, my friend
But youve been climbing shoulders around you
Trying to reach the big blue sky
And all above you is just the blackness, darling
And everything below you dies
And everything below you dies
Youve been growing up
Youve been growing on
Further away from us now x2
And nobody gives a fuck about you
Tell you its a damn shame
The prettiest eyes in the whole world
The same fool in the same game
The same fool in the same game
Youve been growing up
Youve been growing on
Further away from us now x3
Comes, comes around again
The faces you see on the way up
Are those on the way back down, my friend
But youve been climbing shoulders around you
Trying to reach the big blue sky
And all above you is just the blackness, darling
And everything below you dies
And everything below you dies
Youve been growing on
Further away from us now x2
Tell you its a damn shame
The prettiest eyes in the whole world
The same fool in the same game
The same fool in the same game
Youve been growing on
Further away from us now x3

This is one of my favorite songs from Ben. So without further ado, here's what I think it means.
To me, this song is about someone who has started ignoring people in their life in the pursuit of their own goals. Haven been given advice that the path they're on is not the right one, they continue moving in the same direction. As this person grows up and matures, his family and friends see him growing more and more distant. Finally this person realizes that they're truly lonely and that the people they're surrounded by don't actually care about them. By this time, their realization is a shame since they had always been a good hearted person but they were simply just lost. I believe many people run into the same conundrum when they want to rebel against the people who love them, mainly their families.
