Ungirthed Lyrics

The scent of my hands is familiar
To fosterly men in their coats
Who guard not their spirits from fire
Fire, fire, fire, fire
Who speak with some tenderly coax

The tinge of my eyes is familiar
To fosterly men in their coats
Who fiend close, close, close to their closetly homes
And ruminate the walls up with ghosts

Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears, ears
Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears, ears ring

The air is familiar the sound is not still
Dead voices cover their moats
They fill the cloth totes with
The rustles of earth
And the crying, detritioning bones

The dust off my knuckles familiar
To culminated piles, to culminated piles of bones
That shift when the earth quakes and trembles, trembles
And quarries men up to their thrones

The scent of my skin is familiar
To fosterly men in their coats
Who guard not their spirits from fire
Fire, fire, fire, fire
Who speak with some tenderly, speak with some tenderly coax

The air is familiar the sound is not still
Dead voices cover their moats
They fill the cloth totes with
The rustles of earth
And the ladies that they have ungirthed

Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears ring and teeth click and
Ears, ears ring.

I think she might be talking about a Dante's Inferno type of level in hell where the lustful remain...

I would not be at all surprised if this were, in fact, the case.

I agree! Definitely sounds like a description of Dante's Inferno to me.

This is what I hear for a couple of the missing pieces:

The tinge of my eyes is familiar to prostrated men in their call to (?) get close, close, close

To culminated piles, that shift when the earth quakes It trembles, trembles (?) and call these men up to their, call these men up their thrones

to me the chorus sounds like,

the air is familiar, so is that scale dead voices cover their rooms refill their altars, vessels of you and cry in detritioning bones

'Dust of' sounds more like 'dust off' (also, maybe my knuckles instead of necklace?)

I think you're right about most of the lines except for the "refill their altars, vessels of you" And I've been finding a lot of little typos in the lyrics I submitted originally. I meant to type "Dust off my necklace"

Thanks though :D

I believe it's "Dead voices cover their moans" -- that is to say, the moans of those men conducting the ritual are being drowned out by the dead voices.

I think this song is about hell. If you read the bible it says that the ears will ring and the teeth will click when people will burn in hell. The whole song makes sense as to a hell interpretation. Seems like she's having a mirage or a dream about what hell is gonna be, she says that they try to protect their spirits from fire fire fire fire, hell anyone? What is so familiar to her may be the suffering on Earth, as for the scent, the scent of fire. I'm not a religious person, and I don't know if this song has a religious undertone, but it kinda makes sense. That's my opinion. Weird how it's so catchy and cute sounding and it talks about ghosts and roasted people and supposedly prostrated men... 0_0. xD

Found the line quoted on Pitchfork. http://www.pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/12088-ungirthed/

For the, "to (?) men in their call" line. I hear, "outstanding" where the question mark is.

Lyric Correction

aah, I read the chorus on Pitchfork after I posted this and felt stupid because I totally hear it now -__-

and as far as the "outstanding" line, I'm not sure. I hear a "p" sound somewhere in there but it could just be the rest of the song drowning out the word and producing the sound I hear.

"To guard all their spirits from fire" rather than "to gargle on their spirits from fire".

Also, in trying to get the words where the last ? is, I get "And play with something they've ungirthed". Not entirely sure about any of it other than the "and play" and "ungirthed" though.

hmm, I still hear some hurried syllables within the line "to gargle on their spirits from fire, fire, fire, fire" which is why I believe it's that in the first place. "guard all their spirits" does sound close, though. and I'm not ruling it out as a possibility.

That ? line is so drowned out. it's incredibly hard to decipher. I think your suggestion is pretty good, but I'd like to listen to it a few more times and see what I get and compare
