This is a great song by the dolls.
IMO It's about having someone in your life that is there for you entirely. You're not perfect and they're not perfect, but you're perfect for each other. They help you be someone better than you are and renew your outlook on life.
If you're of the Christian type, this could also be interpreted as a relationship with God. For me, my wife-to-be makes the stars shine, but it's open to interpretation.
Either way, it's a very special song.

What!?!? How has no one commented on this yet?!?!?! This song was not only on Transformers 3's soundtrack, but it was also played at Trevor Hoffman's retirement ceromony over the weekend before the Padres swept the Marlins. I attended the game and the Padres did a wonderfull job honoring the greatest closer in baseball history. With you Trevor, we really did "light up the stars", especially in 1998. Here's to you Trevor, and "all that you are". And go Padres!!!
